Hmmmm? Damn it all, I've missed half the run already.

I hold all of you responsible.

and made by the same folks who made Ninja Scroll

6. Oh, I thought Bloodlust was the one they're playing
I've already seen the original VH-D. That hand demon of D's is one of my favorite "characters" in all of anime.

7. I'm sorry dude!
I've gotten my cousin hooked on it.

Normally I'm violently anti-dub, but I did appreciate the fact they attempted to give everyone British accents in the Hellsing one. Even if some of the attempts are atrocious (Ceres' VA, I'm looking at YOU).

8. I've got them subbed
Edited on Thu Dec-16-04 08:04 AM by Khephra
So it's no big loss. I just wanted an English copy so I could share it with my non-sub reading mother.

9. I know what you mean.
My cousin is a casual anime fan who seems to be allergic to subtitles in general (though he didn't seem to mind them in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). He's also lazy and even though I have DVDs and/or fansubs of a lot of shows, TV dubs are usually how he watches stuff (I've had all of Full Metal Alchemist fansubbed for ages and ages, but only bothered to watch it when Cartoon Network started showing it recently). At least he's not one of those adorable people who think Japanese seiyuu are "annoying to listen to". People like that I just want to smack.

10. Isn't Full Metal Alchemist just wonderful?
I've had the episodes for a bit, but I've only had the time to sit down and start watching them recently. Great voice work in both the English and Original. I'm only about 6 episodes in and it just keeps on getting better.

11. Funny thing about FMA.
I've had the fansubs myself for ages and ages but never really got around to watching them, mostly because I download way more anime than I can usually watch (I'm STILL not done with Chrno Crusade yet and I haven't even started on Naruto). Stuff usually gets burned to CD and then sometimes I forget about it.

Then when I was at the L'Arc~en~Ciel concert at Otakon this summer they showed the first episode of the dub before the show started 'cause apparently they were having some problems getting started on time. I was totally blown away and the first thing I did when I got home from the con was pull out those CDs. So glad I did. :) Just pissed I didn't know the words to Ready Steady Go so I couldn't scream them along with the other nerds at the show, hee.

12. I've yet to go to an anime convention
but then again, I'm just now getting back into anime after years of not watching it. I think Pokemon scared me off. ;-)

You sound like me. I'm starting to hoard the stuff too. I've got something like 95 Naruto episodes that I haven't watched either. I've seen the first few and I really enjoy it. The show I'm pissed that I missed out before it got licensed is One Piece. Man, that show cracks me up!

I'm thinking of going to one big Horror con, one big F/SF con, one big anime con and one big game con this year. The game con will probably be Gencon, since it's in my home town of Indy. Would you recommend Otakon as the big anime one or would you pick another one, if you could only go to one this next year?

13. I would definitely recommend Otakon
It's the largest one on the East Coast, by far, and it's been in a sort of one-two contest with AnimeExpo in California for biggest anime con in the US for the last few years. My friends and I attended for the first time this year and we had an absolute blast. The variety of programming was staggering: in addition to the aforementioned concert, there was a special screening of Hero, some interesting industry panels (though I couldn't go to many, at least on Saturday, because of the ginormous dress I had on :D), and there were quite a few guests of honor. Besides L'Arc~en~Ciel, the creator of Azumanga Daioh was also there signing manga and stuff. Music videos were being run almost continuously all weekend, the game room was awesome (and had lots of fun imports, like the Full Metal Alchemist game), and the dealer's room was cavernous. The thing I liked the most about it was just being around so many other insane fans. The level of cosplay was just fabulous...people had some really great outfits. I even ran into an Elric cosplayer (!) Staff and fans alike were friendly and helpful and we didn't run into any problems the whole time we were there.

Another nice thing about it is that it's held at the Baltimore Convention Center which is right at the Inner Harbor, so there are plenty of reasonably-priced eateries and non-convention things to do if you decide to make a little weekend getaway out of it. The only thing I would suggest if you want to go is to really plan ahead. Hotel rooms tend to fill up very quickly; this year there were 10 official hotels and they all sold out very fast. My friends and I waited until the last minute and ended up staying at a dubious Quality Inn in the burbs but it wasn't an issue for us because we had a car. If you don't have a ride and procrastinate, you may be SOL.
