The Truth About ANWR
Edited on Wed Dec-03-08 09:04 PM by EarlG
The propaganda:

First, do you know what ANWR is?

ANWR = Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Now, a comparison:

And some perspective ...

(its in the "ANWR Coastal Plain")

... and they are right ... these ARE photographs of ANWR

Isn't ANWR beautiful? Why should we drill here (and destroy) this beautiful place?

Well, thats not exactly the truth.

Do you remember the map?

The map showed that the proposed drilling area is in the ANWR Coastal Plain.

Do those photographs look like a coastal plain to you?

What's going on here?

The answer is simple.

That is NOT where they are wanting to drill!

This is what the proposed exploration area ACTUALLY looks like in the winter:

And this is what it ACTUALLY looks like in the summer:

Blah blah blah, it goes on to show happy animals frolicking around drilling platforms, etc. And then there's this:

Now, why do you think that the Democrats are LYING about ANWR?

Remember when Al Gore said that the government should work to ARTIFICIALLY raise gas prices to $5 a gallon?

Well, Al Gore and his fellow Democrats have almost reached their goal!

Now that you know that the Democrats have been lying, what are you going to do about it?

You can start by forwarding this to everyone you know, so that they will know the truth.

P.S.: Drilling does not destroy. It creates jobs, resources and strengthens our economy all while protecting our environment. Everyone benefits, even caribou.

My reply:

Al Gore never said we should artificially raise gas prices to $5.00 a gallon. This is just another desperate attempt to blame Republicans failures on Democrats. Lets review some facts about gas prices:

George W. Bush was critical of Al Gore in the 2000 campaign for being part of the administration that's been in charge while the price of gasoline has gone steadily upward. In December 1999, in the first Republican primary debate, Mr. Bush said President Clinton must jawbone OPEC members to lower prices. Bush did not blame Congress, where Republicans had been in control since January 1995.

According to The Energy Information Administration, the average US price of regular gasoline was $1.46 per gallon when Bush assumed the presidency on January 22, 2001. After 7 years and 5 months with Bush being part of the administration that's been in charge, a gallon of gas now costs over $4.00.

But now pathetic Republicans want us to forget about the Bush presidency and all those years of the GOP lapdog Congressional majority, and blame todays gas prices on Democrats. Hoping to exploit an election year wedge issue, John McCain has recently signaled that he might be rethinking his longstanding opposition to drilling in the ANWR. But if we started drilling there today, it would take 10 years to get the first drop of ANWR crude oil to market. And even then this would have little if any impact on gasoline prices.

If Republicans really wanted to do something about current gas prices, they would get behind Barack Obamas proposal to repeal the Enron Loophole, which was drafted in 2000 by Enron lobbyists working with then-Senator Phil Gramm. That legislation enabled the energy commodity speculation that is contributing to skyrocketing costs. But that is not something that is on the big oil energy agenda, so dont expect any support from them.

Snopes article research in progress.
