A few of my paintings
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 07:52 PM by Longgrain
to maybe encourage more people to post some of there own art around here...

Mostly student works from about ten years ago, but some of the ones I like...

an early landscape...

A still-life...

A couple of paintings from my brief attempt at abstractions...

These were supposedly based on the I Ching...but I've forgotten what they mean...

More to come...

1. A few more I thought I'd put in separate message...
in case the Mods and the rest of DU don't see eye to eye with me. I think these are tasteful works of art, and not sexually explicate at all but...

9. Good life studies
I think most people know the difference between art and porn. Except John Ashcroft.

13. Thanks for pointing that out...
I was a bit reluctant to put them up...but we're all progressive people here...we know good taste when we see it...:)

20. The nudes are very well done
The foreshortening in leg in the second one is right on, the same with the support upper arm. The reflective colors in the sheets is good also. I see why you like Gauguin, from your early painting of the bird, the colors and organic forms, are similar to his...it's interesting that in most of your figurative works the figure is usually reclining, or lying. Any with standing figures?

I like the abstract too. The surreal stuff is interesting but I've pretty much gotten burned out on Surreal and DaDa...My favorite will always be Expressionist.

3. Oil on canvas...
Most of my experience is with oil, though I've done some pastels as well...:hi:

4. I love oils.
They always have a certain lusciousness to them. I've done a few recent ones after years of acrylics. I like all mediums. They all have pros and cons.

5. I've always like oils best for their translucence and richness...
With pastels being my second favorite medium...

Acrylics have always seemed to be too opaque for my sences...I kind of like too see the different levels of everything...I think you take my meaning...

Now when are we going to see the Cobalt Violet thread in the artists group, huh?

6. A few more of my paintings
Most of these have been posted around DU before, but I thought I'd consolidate them all into one place...

These are from my figurative/ metaphysical period...

And once again, I warn you, they are very suggestive, and kind of creepy...

I'll post more if anyone wants to see them...

8. Thanks
For some reason oils have always come natural for me...

I could never get used to oils or watercolors...I don't know why...

12. Thanks Raging, Thanks Rocinante
It seems I have a little cross-media support from my pals in the Photography Group:hi:

And Hey Rocinante, I'm guessing from the other night that you didn't want that other thread you posted kicked up, so I thought I'd post this here...

It's one of my first, if not my very first, painting, done when I was about 12 or 13, in acrylic (A medium I've never gotten used to)...

As you can see, my style has improved a little...

Maybe once I get my computer working with me again I'll post some more of my creepy animal paintings...

14. That's pretty good work
for a 12 or 13 year old. At that age I was probably still drawing stick figures with crayons.

18. I like the first two in this post very much.
Something about the way the paint is handled in a kind of light, washy way while the subjects are so, well, "creepy." Very nice work.

17. All right then...a few hundred more
from my creepy animal series...

These were all just studies, oil on canvas paper, I did about fifteen of these in all, but these are some of my favorites...

There's a little glare on some of these, but photographing paintings is tough...

That's about all I have for now...:hi:

19. nice work longrain
i like creepy paintings. if all that art is about is beauty, then we all might as well be thomas kincaide.

about acrylics- you can add gel mediums to them to get more of the look that you like. oils are nice, but they are not good for you.
