Around 5:30 this evening I could see the clouds starting to form over the mountains
So I grabbed the tripod and the D200 and headed out to the lagoon frontage to see if there was going to be any magic.... The sun was still well above the horizon but was dropping fast and the clouds started froming almost immediately. My first shot was a 200mm one of the Island Bora Bora, our neighbor island to the Northwest. The cloud formation over Bora Bora is something I wanted you all to see. In the morning at this time of year there usually are no clouds but as soon as the land and the lagoons start to warm up from the sunshine clouds pop up like popcorn. The huge cloud over Bora was generated by the island and it's lagoon. The monolith is Otemanu and it is 727 meters in height. That should add some scale for the cloud formation.

Bora Bora E

The next three are Sunset shots our reef is where you will see the waves breaking (the uneven black silhouette where the water ends and the clouds, sky and land mass (in the case of a neighbor island begins) Another neat little fact for you to digest is that the water level inside the lagoon is higher than that of the ocean... (Ain't science fun boyz and Gurlz?)

I called these three Apo'o'iti Gold you figger it out

1. So I look up where exactly is Tahiti - and Bora Bora -
just because it is calling me... and sure enough... too far to contemplate at the moment.
Thought there are packages in the low thousands for a week's stay. LOL

Your photos and descriptions make me happy, they are incredibly rich. I especially like the first one, next the second.

2. Worth getting up early for!
Like Mira, Tahiti has been calling me, too. For years. Ever since I was a kid and read Tales of the South Pacific and the Mutiny on the Bounty trilogy I've wanted to go.

These pictures just stir the pot for me. Gorgeous.
