Poll question: *** AUGUST CONTEST -- THEME POLL ***

Here are the topics to choose from. There were too many good suggestions so I haven't added any of my own, although I've added some descriptions that may not be quite what the original suggester intended. My apologies to anyone whose suggestion(s) I didn't add to the poll - I didn't want to do multiple polls so some had to be cut.

Metal
- shiny metal, rusted metal, metal sculptures, metal cutlery, anything metal

A bird's eye view
- pics taken from a high vantage point. This doesn't have to be extremely high - e.g. rooftops, tree, Nth floor of a building, from a bridge/overpass, etc. Or it can be high - e.g. from a plane, helicopter, etc.

In Black and White
- A photo of any subject, as long as the photo is in black and white.
- To achieve this effect easily, just adjust the "Saturation" all the way down. For example, using GIMP, select "Hue-Saturation" from the "Colors" menu, grab the saturation slider, and move it all the way to the left (the value should read -100).

Sunsets / Sunrises
- Can be the sunrise/sunset or a scene bathed in the glow of a sunrise/sunset.

Bugs
- Insects, spiders, dragonflies, etc. OR any reasonable facsimile of such. For example, I would consider the following perfectly valid:


Transportation
- Planes, trains, automobiles, bikes, unicycles, pedal-powered sofas, etc. Here's a (poor) shot of the last:

- Note that the transportation doesn't have to be functional (e.g. a car junkyard shot would be perfectly fine, as would a shot of a crushed car, as long as it was recognizably once a car).

Dolls
- I'd also count mannequins (though I'm not sure DollyM, the person who suggested this, would agree) but I wouldn't count statues.

Sports
- Anything related to sports - people playing sports, sports equipment, sports memorabilia, etc.

Roads
- Modern asphalt, cobblestone, gravel, a packed rush-hour road, a long empty dusty highway, snowplows clearing the roads, paving work in progress, etc.

Ordinarily Extraordinary
- The ordinary photographed in unusual ways...turning everyday things into an interesting photo.

From the way the polling is going, I probably don't need to worry about it.

However, if Metal was the topic, I probably wouldn't accept that shot but would accept one of them playing (where's the connection is clear to even those unfamiliar with the band).

6. One more day to choose

I'm going to leave the poll open for another day. It looks like it may be "In Black and White" but it's only 3 votes ahead of the next contender so it's still close enough that it's not a forgone conclusion.

I'll probably post the official theme close to midnight (PST) tomorrow.
