Some more shots from yesterday's road trip
This is facing west down Portage Valley, heading back to the Seward Highway.

On the way back to Anchorage there was too much traffic to cross over to the lookouts so I just shot through the window.

Here are a few shots I took with the 100-400 telephoto lens. I love to use this lens because I always see things I couldn't see with my naked eye.

I thought there were clouds on the mountaintops, but on closer inspection, it looks more like wind and blowing snow.

Two views across Turnagain Arm, morning...

...and afternoon.

I liked the tops of these birch trees silhouetted against the fog and the sunlit mountain.

1. I've always wanted to visit Alaska. Your photos have increased my desire.
and I'm not fond of snow at all :)

4. Please don't let Sarah Palin stop you.
:) It's very nice up here in the summer, especially May and June and again in September, so you might want to come then. July and August tend to be a bit rainy, but still beautiful.

2. Whenever I see a series of your photos like this, I think
"good, better, best, wow, amazing"

I like the telephoto lens too!

3. Great stuff
I really like the morning shot at Turnagain Arm. Something about that cloud.

5. Wow
I looked at your others but there's one here that looks like a painting. And I can feel the cold. The 'boys' went into hiding just looking at these.

8. Are you familiar with the painter Sydney Laurence?
The colors in the morning "across Turnagain Arm" shot are very similar to ones he uses in a lot of his paintings. These shades are very common here this time of year.

10. I'm horrible with names
I think I've seen the work of this painter but I can't be certain. But I see where he found the color to work with now. This is an amazing planet. I had no idea that there could be colors unique to a particular region.

I don't get out much.

6. I'm kind of glad you had to
stay in the car. Not sure if you would of tried to get a shot like that otherwise. I really like it. Course I really like all of them. When do you go to Costa Rica? I kind of can't wait to see your style and its landscapes in photo.

7. We're going to Costa Rica from January 12th to the 26th.
We're staying a couple of days in San Jose and then heading on over to Montezuma. We decided to hire a private shuttle rather than flying from San Jose in the five-seater (I'm leery of small planes, and the overland ride and ferry should be pretty fun), and I'm taking a full arsenal of cameras and lenses. I'm really looking forward to it.

After we get back it'll be just another month until Iditarod, so photo ops abound. :)

12. I'm so curious about what you will photograph and show
you will find the overland ride interesting; it's beautiful and picturesque for sure. The roads can be treacherously bumpy and rocky, I'm glad you'll be in the hands of a pro driver. Cushion your photo equipment, and glue in any false teeth.

We, three in the car, were stopped by the locals near Monteverde, and they showed us we had a totally shredded tire. We had not noticed. They helped us change it. We motored on, and it did not feel any different. That is how bad the roads can be!!!

You'll have a ball, and I hope you will find lots to marvel over especially the family.

11. Stunning, as usual, Blue.
I do so love it when you post new shots. I'm with Solly, would love to see some of this in person, but since that isn't possible your photos are the next best thing. :hi:
