This morning at Shelby Farms (dial up warning)
For some reason Shelby Farms called me this morning, so I waited for rush hour traffic to end, and embarked on the ten minute drive from my house. I meandered around the place for about an hour or so, both in the car and on foot.

I was panning this flying heron, and the grass got in the way.

As usual, I scared the heron, and it retreated to the island

Tons of geese at that time of day. Most of my pictures were out of focus, though......these were the best of the lot

Whew, here are some still shots

About fifty percent of the time when I leave the park at this time of day, I see either a red winged blackbird or a dove on a fence post or wire.

No bison today! No doggie park today! Not even any ducks! Maybe next time...............

3. Thanks!
Everyone knows that I go there at least once a month, but it is different every time. I never know what I will find. And it's close to home. I'm really not into driving on the interstate just to go take photos. There are other close places to go, but I prefer a 3000 acre park to a relatively tiny Botanic Gardens (170 acres), and a zoo where the animals are in the same place every time. This city doesn't really lend itself to street scenes, for the most part. There is the Mississippi River, but my river pictures are usually of the Tennessee.

2. The geese in flight and the dove are my favorites.
I didn't like the first one initially, because of the grass, but the more I look, the more I think it enhances the photo. Very entertaining set of shots!

4. Thanks
I'm still not sure what to make of that first picture, and whether that grass detracts or enhances the picture. But, it is not the usual fare (that's a plus) and it was one of my better attempts at panning (that's a plus), and I like the light on it (that's a plus), so I wasn't going to not post it just because of some squiggly lines on it. It is kind of emblematic of the difficulties involved in taking photos of wildlife.

The dove was easy fare, just a quick snap through the window of the car as I was leaving the park. That happens a lot there with birds on the fence. I always have the camera ready and hope there is nobody behind me.

6. It's pleasing because it provides a context for the bird
without being a distraction. I was panning some birds in flight recently just to remind myself how lousy I am at doing it. You did a fine job with this one.

5. Oh WOW - you did it again. The first one is so fun, I love the grass in it.
And the last one is one I really wish I had taken, just simply because then I could call that impish looking bird "mine".
The 3 coming in, picture three, give the feel of airplanes in formation. You had a great shoot here.
Makes me happy.
Thanks.

8. So much fun to take flying birds

All the failures make the successes that much sweeter.

Doves look so much better in light that is low on the horizon. And in this case the color of the feet kind of matched a wire.

7. I love the heron in flight
I think the grass really adds to it. And speaking of grass, your grass shot is a winner, too.

9. Thanks.......
I also liked the grass because of the way the light was shining through it.

Perhaps it is the push the envelope part of me that is in rebellion right now, but I think #1 is the Cats Meow!
