I have a question for you guys.

first, let me say that this is the first time i've visited this group and the photos are fantastic. i've added this group to my forums. i used to do a lot of photography, but have gotten away from it. you make me want to get back into it!

here's my question: i'm going thru a couple of large boxes of old photos. i haven't looked at them in years. they're mainly family shots and vacation photos. i'm wondering if it's necessary to keep the negatives. with scanners and the ability to copy photos is it redundant to keep them? can they be put on CD by a photo shop?

1. Keep the negs

If you want to make copies, a photo shop can make a much better quality photo from the negative than they can from a print.

2. In the negatives you find the souls of your photographs.

I believe you should keep them if you can.

3. Keep the negatives

Photos degrade much more quickly than negatives, especially if they're stored properly. I use this to scan negatives:
