Vancouver 2010 (Day 1): So much to see and do
Edited on Sun Feb-14-10 02:52 AM by Tindalos
The Olympic Flame (which you've probably seen on tv):

Ice Skating in Robson Square:

There are lots of entertainers around the city, musicians, jugglers, dancers, and no doubt more to come.

I was keeping an eye out for the protesters but they were like the wind. By the time I arrived, all that was visible was a wall of police in their fluorescent vests. They didn't seem to be arresting anyone and it was pretty quiet in town apart from the problems this morning. I saw a few people with signs. Here's one of my favourites:

There was a minor glitch in the zipline. I posted about it here http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=280x69455

Tomorrow is lunar/Chinese new year. Gung hay fat choi! Every year, we have a big parade (scheduled for unnaturally early morning this time) and happycynic and I will be checking it out for you. Then, I have to go back to work on Monday so I might not be able to post more pictures for a couple of days. Do I hear huge sighs of relief? I'll try to have something good for you next time.

~Tin

Edit: I forgot the photo of the inukshuks with the athlete's village in the background:

1. Woo Hoo, Tin
You go, girl!! Glad for the edited picture. That looks really cool. These are all so different and I love them all the same. Getting ready to check out HC's pics.

More fun than watching most of the Olympic competition on TV.

2. Glad you're enjoying it
HC's pictures are good, aren't they? I can't believe we were in the same places and totally missed each other, but given the crowds...

The only sports I'll see are on tv too.

4. Here another view, showing the crowds
plus the ubiquitous construction sites and fences. That huge crush of people is standing in front of the only tiny area of fence that you can see the flame through.

The other night a group was chanting "Take down the fence!" for the CTV cameras. The city must have heard them because they are considering changing it.

5. Torch at night
And here's one at night. I got more internal reflection than I expected so it's not the best shot.
