NOTICE RE: FEB PHOTO CONTEST
Edited on Sat Feb-21-09 10:00 PM by Tindalos
At the present, there are 4 people tied for the last spot in the finals. That may change between now and when the thread is locked. Does anyone object to having a tie-breaker round between the tied photos? I can post it tonight or Sunday, depending how late the thread gets locked. Then, final round would start on Monday. Does that sound fair?

Edit: It's all locked up and we have a tie. What do we do now?

1. Up to you
but a tie breaker seems fair. One of the hard lessons I learned about hosting was to reserve my vote to take care of such a deal.

But there are smarter folk that I around here who musta had this happen in hte past.

8. when this happened to me
I made a desperate last minute email request to a friend to break the tie. It took as many years off my life as posting the prelims seems to do.

5. That's comforting
In my defense, I have a huge exam on Monday and my brain is completely fried. I withheld voting for just this reason, and then totally forgot.

Maybe I'll just go with a tie-breaker round tomorrow.

7. Remember: If you don't make enemies, you don't have to pay attention to
holding them closer.
I'd go for the tie breaker.
(still grinning...:))

You ran a fabulous and disciplined contest. I had lots of fun with it, and so did others I'm sure.

9. Actually, it looks like a four-way tie for the last TWO spots...
Unless I'm missing something, it breaks down as follows

Top two finishers, each preliminary (NOT in order of total votes):

1. Railroad Red
2. mo red
3. once in a lifetime...
4. Over Crimson Clouds
5. Red Skies at Night
6. red barn, Merced CA

Top four at-large finishers

7. Winter Red ! (31 votes)
8. Coming up red (30 votes)
9T. Beachparty hosted by Red, all colors welcome (19 votes)
9T. Trolley Stop at Earnestine and Hazel's (19 votes)
9T. Northern Cardinal, Columbus, Ohio (19 votes)
9T. Berry Red (19 votes)

Hence, four total contestants for spots 9 and 10.

And, just to show how tight the preliminaries were, an additional seven entries fell one vote short at 18. If any of those had pulled down one more vote, you would have had an even bigger logjam to sort out...

10. You missed one
Little Red Hen has 23 votes. The final count is:

2. mo red
3. once in a lifetime...
4. Over Crimson Clouds
5. Red Skies at Night
6. red barn, Merced CA

This contest has been a real squeaker.

21. Polls only have room for 10 choices
There's no way to run a poll with all 13.

13. I don't have another plan, but
I think there might be a little contest burnout on GD. Very few people even said anything about our Reds. And one of the preliminaries didn't get many votes.

Just sayin'..............

I have no problem with whatever is decided, though. I wouldn't want the runoff for the last place to detract from the more important finals.

14. you could always do a run-off here in the photography forum
if you want to avoid total burnout.

Although, we've had more contests than this go in the past in the space of a month, too.

18. That's not a bad idea.
Probably a lot quicker and painless than doing the runoff in GD.

16. It wouldn't have to run very long
Maybe half a day Sunday morning and then I could post the finals on Monday afternoon. That gives everyone a break. There weren't many comments on the prelims, but the number of votes looked about normal as far as I remember. I kicked the thread with less votes to the top separately after I noticed the discrepancy and it caught up with the others by the end. Maybe some people missed seeing it the first time.

19. Your call
But Sunday morning probably has fewer people on DU than any other time of the week. I think I would leave it up for 24 hours, if this was the route I was taking.

22. HERE'S THE PLAN
There will be a brief tie-breaker poll between the 4 tied photos. It will run tomorrow (Sunday) and the photo that gets the most votes will move on to the final round. I'll post notices in GD and the Lounge, directing people here. Due to my exam schedule, I will post the finals when I get home on Monday afternoon. The finals will be extended until very late (Pacific time) on Tuesday, which should be long enough. Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions.
