After the Rain
My new university has tonnes of gardens. This weeks torrential rains (we've officially given up on summer this year) didn't deter an exploration of the Botanical Gardens. I was quite impressed by a large section devoted to growing produce for the food bank and homeless.

There's also an apiary. Apparently I can volunteer to be a bee keeper.

1. Nice! Looks like bees on...purple thistles?
I have a friend who is a bee keeper. I need to get some pics of her doing her thing, such as moving hives that have chosen to locate in inconvenient/public places.

And she gives us jars of the best honey... :9

3. Maybe thistles
They were about 6 ft tall and not spiny like the thistles I know. OTOH, the gardens have plants from all over the world and some pretty strange varieties.

The bee was not happy about having her photo taken. She was soaking wet and did a rather aggressive fly-by of my head as I was leaving. Maybe I should avoid that hive for a while. I'd love to see some pictures of your beekeeper friend in action. That is such a cool job.

4. Thanks
They have so much produce. It's been such a crappy summer though, their harvest must be smaller than usual. There are still loads of apples coming though.
