Flickr vs. PhotoBucket vs. others?
Hello, I stop by and enjoy the art here once in a while. Hoping for some help today, and I'm guessing you folks have talked about it before. Have there been threads before about the various free photo sharing sites? I'm new to these, but need one to be able to share some photos without using my work websites, and I don't have a personal website I can use. Don't need to do anything fancy, just wondering if they're really free, if there are copyright/privacy issues. One I could use for eBay or craigslist would be helpful too. Thanks!

1. Photobucket is okay. Flickr is much more photographer oriented
and it's organizational tools are much better - even if they are quite weak in some areas.

2. I have had pretty good success with imageshack....
but I'm not anywhere near being a real photographer type, so they work ok for me. I have had them drop a couple of images, and that was a bummer.

3. I don't use either, but I noticed that Flickr allows the pix to be posted
with the Creative Commons license. Check it out if it is new to you. Either, and many more, will allow you to link and display your pix on eBay and craigslist and here and anywhere. I use an obscure bare-bones site http://xs.to/ which does nothing but hosting and presenting few unobtrusive ads.

4. Also, most Flickr features have to be paid for these days...
Other than that, Flickr is great... no complaints.

6. You have to pay for premium hosting with Photofucket too
OOPS, did I say that? I meant Photobucket.

The only thing that annoys the heck out of me with Photobucket is their constant messing around with the interfaces. You just go in your album, and voila, the process is ganz anderes. (Something else)

5. My Take

Photobucket is best for enthusiasts who wish to show their photos with friends and family via controlled linking and keep others out.

Picasa is also good for that group, but leaving a little room to allow approved people to explore otherwise restricted albums.

Flickr is good if you want to show off to/with the cool kids.

Smugmug is good if you don't have to show off and want to make some sales.
