Some favorite authors... and looking for more.
I am a voracious reader and hate it when I've finished off the last book of a beloved author and find myself looking for another. Here are a few of my latest favorites.

Dennis L. McKiernan - Love all his "Once Upon..." books... have the last two on hold at the library.

L.E. Modesitt - just finished the Spellsong Cycle books... loved them.

and my newest favorite: Christopher Moore... okay, so his is more of the horror/comedy genre, but one of the funniest authors I've ever read. Currently reading his "The Stupidest Angel - A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror"

I'd love to hear some more suggestions of fantasy series (off the beaten path mostly, I've read all the standards)

1. I LOVED Christopher Moore's "A Dirty Job"
Very, very funny and one that I almost raced through because I was enjoying it so much.

Other faves, though not necessarily in the same genre:

Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series, starting with "Dead Witch Walking."

Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, beginning with "Storm Front."

Really enjoyed Rachelle Mead's "Succubus Blues," and her new book "Succubus On Top" is about to be released.

Also loved Terry Pratchett's Tiffany Aching books (young readers series, but wonderful for adults as well) beginning with "Wee Free Men." The Tiffany books are part of the Discworld series and I'm trying to find the time to read more of them.

3. Thanks for the recommendations.
I just finished "A Dirty Job" a couple days ago... made me laugh out loud reading. How could you not love someone who names a character Minty Fresh? LOL

2. I'm not sure if they fit in with your favorites...
...but two of my favorite authors are Diana Wynne Jones and Lois McMaster Bujold. Most of Jones's stuff is fantasy, but Bujold writes both SF and Fantasy. Her Chalion series is fantasy, and you might like it. I reread all the books of it on a regular basis. For Jones you can start just about anywhere. She has several series, but two of my favorites are stand-alones: Dogsbody and Howl's Moving Castle.

If you enjoy darkly ironic humor, you might try Peter David's Sir Apropos of Nothing series. I didn't like it too much, but other folks love it.

7. You are welcome.
I used that thread to branch out and find several new sources. I still go back now and then to remind myself of what I haven't checked out yet.

:hi:
