Anybody get manic at night?
I swear I am so hyped up I can't stand it. I try to go to sleep but my body sing won't rest. I think the cold pills I took earlier is causing this. I am getting so sensitive to this kind of stuff. I used to take anything and go to sleep. I also take my asthma medicine and that I can't help.

Tomorrow night I am going to forgo the cold pills and I might stop drinking coffee altogether, even in the morning.

Now I'm nervous and I'm getting off the computer.

1. Good ideas.
Take 'meds' carefully, including caffeine. Ask pharmacist about these, including 'over the counter' stuff.

Good luck.

2. Cold meds amp a lot of people up. I can't even take them because I bounce of the walls.
Plus I have high blood pressure so I'm not supposed to take 90% of them anyways. But even the ones I can take make me hyper, so I skip them entirely. Talk to your pharmacist about this and maybe they can suggest one that won't hit you like that.

When I get manic it's not for a night, but for a few weeks. :)

3. I suspect the cold pills
bipolars in particular have to be VERY careful about these, as they can send you into a manic episode. In particular, avoid the ones with pseudoephedrine, as there is a known link between it and mania in some people.

I was popping those things like M&Ms a couple years back, due to a cold and congestion I was experiencing. I ended up having a minor manic episode, which later swung the other way, and eventually landed me in the hospital.

Hope you're doing better.

5. Good to hear!
I got myself into trouble with cold meds again over the past few weeks, again.

I got a nasty cold a few weeks back, and started taking cold meds again-- this time, I took the heart-safe, non-stimulant kind, thinking I'd be alright. I also started taking an herbal remedy and zinc, so I could get through it quicker. I was also in the middle of withdrawing from Lexapro, which probably didn't help, either, but didn't seem like too big a factor.

Long story short, I think the cold meds dehydrated me too much, and I ended up getting a mild case of lithium toxicity. I believe it was caused by the dehydration from the cold meds. Needless to say, I had my lithium levels checked (via bloodtest) and they were above normal-- just enough to make me physically ill (nausea, diarrhea, blurred vision, lethargy, shakes, etc.). So I've been spending the last two weeks trying to get back to normal-- and missing over a week of work, unpaid, to do so.

Cold pills are a hell of a drug.
