I only wish all priests & ministers spoke like Bernie Ward!
I try to listen to him each Sunday on his show "God Talk".

He talks in such common, everyday language that everyone can understand.

This morning, he gave the definition of a fundamentalist. "A fundy is anyone who believes that if you don't believe the same as I do, you're going to hell!" He then said, the Catholic Church was a fundy org. in the past. That's TRUE! I just didn't realize it when I was a little kid.

I've turned into a luke warm Catholic in the last 10 years or so, and I must say, a lot of the changes they've made are a bit shocking. After years of being taught that unless you were baptized in the Church, you couldn't get to heaven...you'd go to Limbo, the Church now says...OPPS, there is no Limbo!

Bernie was talking about a lot of the changes the Catholic Church has made in recent years, and then he added something I found pretty funny.

"If all these fundies were right, and eash group said you couldn't get into heaven unless you believed the same as they do, wouldn't heaven be a very sparsely populated place????"

Bernie has the ability to talk about Religion to people in a way that doesn't scare or in some way drive them away!

1. I think that the Catholic Church has turned the corner in this
due to the younger/liberal priests who are taking over many parishes. Unfortunatly there are many old guard Catholics out there who still believe the fundie mantra.

I'm listening today and he's on about Matthew 25 and wow, he sure won the debate with some fundie that called him this a.m. I found this on the www.

http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/matthew/matthew25.htm

He is so totally right on and I wish there was someone like this around where I live and I don't go to Church.

It is nice knowing however that the New American Bible is online! :D

:kick:

3. I listen to Bernie eery Sunday too!
I also was raised Catholic. I went to 12 years of Catholic school, and was taught all the things Bernie talks about now. I find myself laughing at many of those things now.

A few weeks ago, he said lots of people asked him why he didn't take the show national syndicated. He said he'd be run out of most towns! I disagree with that. I have to listen to him on the net, but then I live in Ga. so even if he was syndicated, no station here would likely carry it anyway. ;O(

I wish all prechers would talk like him too. I love the way he always wins the arguments with the extremists! His "Oh REALLY!" always works!!!
