Congratulate me, I did my first campaign voulnteering ever today!
I stuffed envelopes for a local State Senate candidate for 3.5 hours this afternoon. I know it's not going to change the world, but I feel glad I helped. I'll be going back next week. If we can win this district (well, it's not my district but it's on the other side of the Springs) and add another seat to our current 1 seat majority in the Senate that would be really great. Evidently people say we can win this one, so I'm glad to help.

2. Congratulations!
You know, this is what it is all about. These are not little things, they are the building blocks upon which everything else rests. Politics is about showing up, giving a damn and talking to others who also give a damn. You did that so take a bow. Democracy depends on those who show up and take these actions. Life is, after all, composed of all the small steps that only look gigantic when we look back at them. At the time they are happening, they all look like baby steps.

It's not a little action at all. :patriot:

"There are only two people of value on the face of this earth: those with a commitment and those who require the commitment of others." -- John Adams.

4. people don't realize how important these things are
campaigns are always in need of volunteers for these type of things. they do help a lot more than the internet warriors who claim to know it all and if only the campaigns did what they demanded, all would be perfect.

good for you for doing this and hopefully you candidate will win.

7. Thanks!
We're sending out a ton of fundraising letters. Hopefully we'll get a good return on our investment because we're reaching out to previous donors. The people on our side are saying that control of the Senate might hinge on this race.

6. I'd rather stuff envelopes than do phone-banks/door knocking.
I don't like confronting people. I'm gonna have to see if I can get a gig like yours.

10. You got that right about the phone banks, etc!!
We had one BIG one the night before the election. Everyone crowded into one little room at headquarters ( a local pub and pizza )Each of us brought our own cell phones and were handed a list to call. COULDN'T HEAR YOURSELF THINK !!! Too much chaos for me!! But we got out the Independents for us, and got rides to the polls for some.:woohoo:

9. Good on ya!!
Doesn't it feel good to be a small part of the big picture?? Every little bit helps. My past experiences have been in fund raising, and writing LTTE's. Also in Nov. '04, I worked at the polls, and then helped audit voter lists (reconciled those that voted against the # of votes.) We celebrated a local Dem. win with pizza , and went to bed hoping that we'd wake up to hear President John Kerry. sigh:cry: :toast: but here's to ya anyway!!

11. It's not really a big picture
There were three people in that office, and I was one of 'em. So, that was kind of cool.
