They are things that 'citizens' have to do. (How gauche.) Congress can decide for itself when it should take a vacation.
Let's see, Congress started this year around Jan. 30th. They were late because they thought the extra time would give Tom Delay a boost in trying to get out of his indictment and return to his role as Lead Weasel of The House. It didn't work, the indictment was upheld and Delay is now somewhere in Virginia complaining that he can't get off the ballot in Texas. That was one of the highlights of the year.
Let's see. The Senate came back in Jan, held the Alito hearings and then decided to let that Extremist RW bastid on the bench, cuz, it hurt people when Alito's wife cried. (Well, hell, sounds like a good reason to me. BTW, does the Senate care when people cry over lost loved ones in Iraq or is it just a judicial thing?) Let's see, Sen. Kerry led a filibuster, Sen. Reid got all grumpy over it and then Alito got confirmed anyway and generally grumpiness all over lib-blogland ensued. (Like we need a reason.)
Ahm, the Senate voted to take money from babies and poor mothers in their budget balancing and give it to very, very, very rich people. This is their major accomplishment of the year. The flag-burning, gay, illegal Mexicans paid a visit to the Senate, but they didn't really get in. (Missed it by < that > much. )
Not much else went on. Both houses pretended to talk about Iraq, but they don't really know what to do about it and they don't really want to talk about it as it is gauche to bring up War in the Congress and besides, it's like tres uber serious and we just can't focus on serious stuff in the heat in DC. (Really. comedies are for summer, tragedies wait until the thinking months arrive. )
Ahm, Congress may as well stay away. Maybe we can at least save money on the electric and heating bills.
