Senate to go out of session this year on Sept 27th?
Edited on Mon Jul-10-06 01:16 PM by TayTay
Sen. Reid was just on the floor saying that the Rethugs are tyring to call it a year for the Senate on 9/27/06. (The Senate would wrap up way before Halloween. Damn.) This means that hordes of ravaging Rethugs will be loosed on the land to bad-mouth those traitors who believe in The Rule of Law, and End to Unjust and Unwinnable Wars and who want to Hold Government Accountable. (How could they? It makes Rethugs very very touchy when you bring those things up. Gay Mexican illegals who want to burn flags should be the discussion. Geez.)

Anyway, it looks like the Senate is going to have only about 23 more business days to attempt to ruin America. (Ahm, they take August off, btw.) I seriously don't know whether this is good or bad. But there it is. That also means that it will be a very, very mean campaign season. It also means that a lot of you won't see John Kerry very much. Make withdrawal plans now. (I don't know, stock up on C-Span tapes or something.)

Sen. Reid was thinking of talking about Stem Cell Research and the renewal of the Voting Rights Act. Sen. Frist, stroking his pet stuffed cat, thought about for about 3 seconds and then said, 'No Harry, you've been punk'd." Sigh! We have to discuss other stuff instead. Like Gay Mexican flag-burners who want publicly funded abortions. Sigh!

1. JK might go on a whirlwind tour of the country
campaigning for other Dems. It might actually increase the chances of an in-person JK sighting for our far-flung Kerry fans. :)

3. Thanks Rox.
This would be a good thing. Still, stock up on C-Span tapes, cuz Sept. 27th to Jan. 6th is a long, long time. (Unless the Rethugs lose heavily this fall and decide to come back and wreck the Republic before a change of Houses occur. They could do this. They are that mean and vindictive.)

2. Seriously, isn't the Senate required to
put in a minimum number of days in order to get a passing grade, like, say public high schools?

I agree with you that this is a mixed blessing - no more legislative harm vs. rampant smears. Tough call.

5. Labor Law and 'requirements' are not for the Congress
Edited on Mon Jul-10-06 01:32 PM by TayTay
They are things that 'citizens' have to do. (How gauche.) Congress can decide for itself when it should take a vacation.

Let's see, Congress started this year around Jan. 30th. They were late because they thought the extra time would give Tom Delay a boost in trying to get out of his indictment and return to his role as Lead Weasel of The House. It didn't work, the indictment was upheld and Delay is now somewhere in Virginia complaining that he can't get off the ballot in Texas. That was one of the highlights of the year.

Let's see. The Senate came back in Jan, held the Alito hearings and then decided to let that Extremist RW bastid on the bench, cuz, it hurt people when Alito's wife cried. (Well, hell, sounds like a good reason to me. BTW, does the Senate care when people cry over lost loved ones in Iraq or is it just a judicial thing?) Let's see, Sen. Kerry led a filibuster, Sen. Reid got all grumpy over it and then Alito got confirmed anyway and generally grumpiness all over lib-blogland ensued. (Like we need a reason.)

Ahm, the Senate voted to take money from babies and poor mothers in their budget balancing and give it to very, very, very rich people. This is their major accomplishment of the year. The flag-burning, gay, illegal Mexicans paid a visit to the Senate, but they didn't really get in. (Missed it by < that > much. )

Not much else went on. Both houses pretended to talk about Iraq, but they don't really know what to do about it and they don't really want to talk about it as it is gauche to bring up War in the Congress and besides, it's like tres uber serious and we just can't focus on serious stuff in the heat in DC. (Really. comedies are for summer, tragedies wait until the thinking months arrive. )

Ahm, Congress may as well stay away. Maybe we can at least save money on the electric and heating bills.

6. Apparently Senators (at least the Republican kind)
are a lot like child actors. They can only work for so many hours during any given day/week/year before their stunt doubles have to come in and lend a hand.

So, who is George Allen's stunt double? (OMG, who could play him in a movie.)

IB: cna you put up that pic of George Allen as Howdy-Doody again. Maybe that's it.

Ooooooh, I like that one.

12. That is priceless. Thank you!
You ought to send that to the Webb campaign.

I have always wanted to ask our good friends in Virginia: Are there a lot of cowboys in Virginia. Sen. Allen sure does like playing dress-up. (Ahm, we have re-enacters up here, but they mostly do so cuz they work for tourist related spots. Is it like that?)

14. I can't really speak for the Virginia folks
but I don't THINK there are a lot of cowboys in the state. (From what I can tell anyway.) There are a lot of re-enactors in places like Williamsburg, Jamestown, etc. but not cowboy re-enactors. They'd be more of the Colonial variety. Republicans really like to play dress-up for some reason. I guess something must be lacking in their lives so they have to pretend to be someone else.

Oh, and in case you're ever interested, I've also found Kos's stunt double. :)

4. If they do this
I think just my HO, that it will hurt the Repubs, and will make them look like they care about politics more then issues like the Iraq war, OBL, healthcare, etc. etc.......

10. True. Wrecking people's live is exhausting work.
It does drain you after a while. Sigh, good thing Congress has really decent health care.
