Troop withdrawal proposition - Another proposition (Boxer)
Edited on Wed Jun-07-06 10:45 PM by Mass
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c109:S.J.RES.39:

We already had 3 (Kerry. Feingold, and Harkin), who were basically proposing the same thing: withdrawing the troops before the end of 06.

Now we have 4 - Boxer could not endorse one of the three other ones. She had to propose her own.

You wonder why Democrats cannot go anywhere. 4 Democratic Senators have basically the same approach to a problem (their plans vary only by details). Rather than sitting around a table and make a common proposal, a common press conference (that would probably draw some other people to cosponsor the proposition), they have to have their own one. And you think that people have time to remember that there are 4 propositions in the Senate.

Next time one of these four will be interviewed, he/she will be told that their resolution got no traction among Democrats.

:grr::grr::grr::grr::grr:
(Note that those 4 are also the 4 cosponsors of the censure motion).

1. politically, no she really couldn't
Because it would have meant that whoever she signed on with would have had the crowd raving, "Boxer supports xxxx". So yeah, I'd guess if she wanted to have her position in the record, this seems like the only way without an implied endorsement. It is too bad they can't get together on this stuff though, it is beyond frustrating.

Oh, and just to go along with my crowd raving point, the fact that she didn't sign on with Kerry or Feingold may mean she hasn't made any definitive decision about 2008, which I find interesting.

Or maybe she just did it so she can tell her constituents about the Boxer Iraq Strategy. :shrug:

2. i don't but, but it would be a good question to ask Kerry
especially since Kerry is on the foreign relations committee with Boxer and Feingold. i know during some of the hearings they have backed up each other at times.

3. Three of those 4 people are on SFRC
Where the various plans would go to (die) be heard. That's means that the principal authors would be sitting down together and hammering out the minor details. That is actually an encouraging sign.

BTW, the US House has scheduled next week for a full discussion of the Iraq War. The RW believes that any discussion of the War favors them as it will portray Dems as 'weak on security issues.' This could get interesting.
