<McCain, Kerry, Allen and Hagel to Help ACYPL Celebrate Its 40th Anniversary, June 14

The American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL), recognized worldwide as the pre-eminent catalyst for introducing rising political leaders to international affairs and to each other, will celebrate its fortieth anniversary in Washington, D.C. on June 14, 2006. The day-long event will include a "Washington Briefing Day" for ACYPL alumni and guests at the University Club featuring Senators John McCain (R-AZ), John Kerry (D-MA), George Allen (R-VA), and Chuck Hagel (R-NE), House Democratic Caucus Chairman James Clyburn (D-SC), and director of the Aspen Institute’s Homeland Security Program Clark Kent Ervin, author of a new book "Open Target: Where America is Vulnerable to Attack" (Palgrave Macmillan, May 2006).

The day’s events will also include a "Salute to ACYPL Alumni Reception," hosted by Northern Ireland, and a 40th Anniversary Gala Reception and Dinner at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium, honoring the organization’s most distinguished alumni. Visit http://www.acypl.org for full program details.

WASHINGTON BRIEFING DAY at the UNIVERSITY CLUB: 9:30 to 2 p.m.

"SALUTE TO ACYPL ALUMNI" RECEPTION at the NO. IRELAND BUREAU: 5 to 6:30 p.m.

GALA RECEPTION and DINNER at the ANDREW MELLON AUDITORIUM: 6 to 9:15 p.m.

The bipartisan ACYPL was founded in 1966 to promote understanding and cultivate lasting political, economic and cultural relationships among young political leaders and policy makers worldwide through the regular exchange of delegations, educational forums, leadership training and ongoing dialogue. Receiving partial funding from the U.S. State Department, the ACYPL has conducted programs and exchanges with more than 90 nations, producing a global network of several thousand alumni, a large number of whom have risen to positions of great influence in the United States and in nations around the globe. Prominent U.S. alumni include nearly forty sitting members of the U.S. Congress, two members of the Bush cabinet, seven sitting governors, seven current U.S. ambassadors and scores of senior level national, state and local executive and legislative branch officials. For more information and a list of alumni dignitaries, visit http://www.acypl.org.

1. Sounds like the typical balance - Kerry and 3 Republicans
It will be interesting to hear the reactions each get.
