13. I saw the last two segments.
I liked some of Donnie's questions. Not too hard hitting. Some fun stuff (What do you and Teresa do, what do you watch on tv, that sort of thing). Nothing new, but nice to see him back.
Donnie had to ask about Hillary, didn't he? Expected answer from the Senator. He respects her, thinks she's a good Sen, (let's move along...) What else would he say?
I think it was a nice way to ease back in after the last week.
Did I mention he looks great?

21. He did look good didn't he? I saw about what you saw.
Some different questions were asked and I like the advice from Donny that told him if he runs again, go with his gut.
Did you hear Senator Kerry mention that he listens to Imus in the morning?

12. He did try to get him to say yes several times
Their discussion on the SBVT was interesting, though I think he wanted Kerry to say even more than he did - which was in the future he would fight back harder.

The Bush/How's the country going - that he didn't have any idea what Bush thought.

I liked his answer that he and Teresa like to just talk and they spend a lot of time on homework. Teresa's doing a lot of work on health care in a lotof states - he mentioned Colorado. (The video he showed of them with Kerry with his arm around Teresa (near a plane ) from the campaign was really nice of both of them.

He asked about Hillary - Kerry was very polite and nice - Bill and Hillary helped in the campaign. She's a very good Senator.

37. It was great! JK was REAL focused, dazzling. Deutsch really was pushing
for JK to run. Nice long interview...for those who missed it. (Seemed about 20 minutes.)

That speech in Boston recently, and last night...JK had "that energy" he had in Iowa when his campaign took that turn toward the home-stretch. He looks "so strong and focused"...and his "gut" appears to CERTAINLY know it. He said A LOT (of the 'bad' done by Shrubco) needs reversed...and he also knows he IS the one destined to do it. Just "let Kerry BE Kerry" this time, and he'll shine through and win.

That's our Prez!

6. I wonder if that will be posted on line anywhere.
I'd love to see the part I missed. He was great and seemed very relaxed.

He mentioned watching the Colbert Report - didn't someone post a while ago that he was supposed to be on the Report sometime, or am I making that up?

I enjoyed it. I missed the first few minutes but this was the first, "Are you going to run again?" that I liked. It was forward looking and the Senator was allowed to finish his sentences.

I loved the break before the commercial when the host said they were going to come back with personal stuff. LOL! I thought we might have a scoop for Vek here, but it was rather not. (LOL! I thinking of you dear. I will post the transcript tomorrow if it comes through.)

Nice, nice piece on what the US could have done with all the money we have spent in Iraq. Kerry did a great job talking about funding NCLB, health care, border security and so forth.

Thank you for the alert on this. 'twas nice of you.

20. I'm not that surprised.
It is a lot of 'guy humor.' Imus is occasionally offensive, but he is still a voice of middle America. I don't find him nearly as offensive as the RW lunatics. (Imus has bouts of sanity.)

23. I turn him off
when he talks about McCain. He has a 'thing' for him, and that grosses me out.
But I still watch most mornings when I'm getting ready for work.
I really hate his racist sidekick more than I am bothered by Imus. I also dislike the way the rest of the crew fawns all over him and agrees with everything he says.
But I watch, mostly because he's better than the bobblehead on CNN.

16. It's being repeated
1-2 a.m Eastern.

What I saw was a smiling, friendly, casual conversation about immigration and why we can't send them all back to Mexico. Enforce borders, yes, and crack down on employers, but it's stupid to think of sending them all back.
Also "what do you and Teresa do at home?" He said not much time for TV except for late-night, plus lots of "homework", speech writing and stuff, and Teresa had her share too with some healthcare things she's working on.

Edited on Tue May-02-06 10:09 PM by TayTay
"Say you and Teresa are in bed watching TV? What do you do?"

I caught Kerry laughing and saying something about, "it might be censored." His real answer was about not having time to watch TV and stuff due to homework and being busy. (Sorry Vek honey. The gentleman from MA was the very model of a, ahm, gentleman. Weird question and weirdly phrased though.)

He does watch Jon Stewart and Colbert Report. (That's good. I would love the see Kerry go on both shows. Colbert could be a riot.)

Not a nasty one; just a speculation about whether JK has learned enough to not make the same mistakes again.

29. but it does show the positive side of JK
for all the criticism he can get almost everyone who actually watches him comes away being impressed and wishing he was President. that's how i saw it during the primary and even now.

almost none of the criticisms involve how he actually does during speeches, interviews, debates etc.

and in some ways that's why all the attacks on him could backfire. people hear negative things about him , but when they see him for themselves they see something totally different from what they hear from the media and others who hate Kerry.

34. Good point, they lower the expectations
Edited on Wed May-03-06 06:49 AM by karynnj
Like in this interview, you have the Senator and Teresa both working extremely hard on issues that affect people. Though he doesn't say it, he and Teresa could be simply living the life of the rich and famous. Teresa has enormous wealth - but at 65, she is working on helping legislatures on health care. These are two real serious people - she would not have married a "windsurfing dilettante" to use Eleanor Clift's words.

Weird as that question was it let Kerry do 2 things. To first laugh and say he'ld be censored before the break and then to highlight the amount of work they do.

32. It was a wonderful interview.
Kerry was superb, he addressed a lot of issues. The exchange about his campaign's response to the lies showed how difficult it was for the truth to penetrate the veil of MSM spin. More money might have helped, but would the media have turned up the spin? He could have displayed more anger during the debate, but would that have played in a tenuous environment in which a lot of Independents were actually looking at Bush (sigh!)?

Kerry looked fantastic!

33. The problem with showing a huge amount of anger
in the first debate - which is the one that dealt mostly with war and foreign policy is that what Kerry did do was come across as extremely Presidential and knowledgeable. A large part of Presidential was the sense of control of the subject matter, his response and his demeanor. This was essential to the debate. I'm sure that Kerry unchecked could have skewered Bush on this issue that segment would have been played ad nauseum the next day. Any gains from hitting back would have been balanced by loses either from people not noticing that he was Presidential or many thinking Kerry was unfair -as it was the SBVT, not Bush.

Bush was so weak in the first debate - that Kerry was right to just let him self destruct. (If the media replayed any of Bush's weaker moments more it would have helped. (Bush was well beyond Gore's sighing)

The convention was over by the time of the SBVT. So, the real question is what forum could Kerry have used other than the debates. He needed the later debates closing statements to project vision. Oddly, it might have been something like Oprah, if she were pro-Kerry. Where he could show the anger that the good name that he had earned was being destoyed by partisan lying.

36. Yes and besides that,
remember what they did to Al Gore after his debates. They positively skewered him about being "too angry" then "too nice" etc. Better for JK to have been consistent throughout all the debates--which he was. Sometimes a non-politician's impulse about what would have been the right thing to do doesn't work in reality.
I think JK knew better how any hint of phoniness or posturing would have played out in the media. There really was no real criticism after the debates about any of this, was there. It was all about how * was acting, or acting out! Kerry aced all three debates--no need to second guess a winner.
