Best BGlobe smackdown EVER: Romney abandons Mass.
OMG! I like them again. (And after their fisheries putdown of Kerry yesterday, I was kind of pissed at them. Yes, fisheries. I didn't post it here, because my post about the hearing on CapHill of the Fisheries re-authorization bill was just a non-starter. And you call yourself Kerry fans. Ha! Real Kerry-fans watch Fisheries Hearings. Ahm, well, they try to anyway. Then they wander off and find Stephanie Miller for a little while. Okay, It was Ted Stevens, I just can't watch that man for more than ten minutes before I get a headache in my eye. Sigh!)

Romney exits right
December 15, 2005

OUR NEW YEAR'S wish: a governor who wouldn't rather be elsewhere.

By thumbing his nose at Massachusetts after less than three-quarters of one term as its chief executive, Mitt Romney, yesterday surrendered his clout and squandered his legitimacy. If, as it appears, his heart and mind are no longer in Massachusetts, he should resign.

Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey is inexperienced. But the state would be far better off in the hands of someone focused on state problems, rather than someone touring the country ridiculing the people he was elected to serve. Romney has joked in several states that, as a Republican here, he feels like ''a cattle rancher at a vegetarian convention."

Romney's decision was no surprise, as he admits to presidential aspirations and has increasingly taken conservative positions that would appeal far more to GOP activists in the South and West than to Massachusetts voters. Romney said he would keep his commitment to finish his term, but there is no reason to. He might as well follow Paul Cellucci, who went to Ottawa, and Bill Weld, who left for Mexico City (though he never arrived).

1. Excellent!
Edited on Thu Dec-15-05 12:11 PM by ProSense
I'm waiting for MA to throw him out. Everything I've learned about the man reminds me of an opportunistic snake. After reading an article about a company connected to the SBV smear who he gave a campaign ad contract to and the whole tunnel deal, I wrote him off as completely partisan and a failed governor trying to ride his credentials as governor toward a run for the presidency. Please, he's just another Bush waiting to happen. (I writing this from memory, so I hope I have the details about the campaign ad stuff straight.)

2. The BG also had Kerry's and Kennedy's reactions
------

-- "I respect Gov. Romney's decision. I'm extremely hopeful he'll be able to sign the landmark health bill next year. I know that Senate President Travaglini and House Speaker DiMasi are committed to it, and the Gov. can help put it over the top." -- Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., who defeated Romney in the 1994 U.S. Senate race.

------

"Massachusetts families deserve a governor who will fight for them every step of the way -- creating good jobs, making our streets safe, ensuring our families have affordable health care, and protecting our environment. I hope the next election will give us the opportunity to have an open, honest conversation about putting Massachusetts families first." -- Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
One of them really has nothing nice to say about Romney - but his statement is great

4. OMG! That Kerry comment is wonderful!
Edited on Thu Dec-15-05 12:28 PM by TayTay
Mass wants a Gov who respects it. We want to be loved both the night before when the lights are bright and the drinks are flowing and the sweet talk is so, so good, and also the next morning when you notice the suitor is gone and your wallet is missing. (And the dog is walking kind of funny as well.) Sigh! Poor, poor Massachusetts. Rich in Senators but cursed in Governors. (Okay, PA'ers and 'VA'ers and such can now tear me a new one. My self-pity moment has now passed.)

Romney is a frickin no good, turn coat, opportunististic, piece of shit, lying friggin bastard. Don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out Mittens! Good luck and let us know if you need anything. We won't send it. Oh, and remember that divebombing you did into red states in '04 to stab people in the back. Right back at ya Gov, right back at ya.

as people keep reading into Kerry's comments, his statement reads pretty much like your second paragraph, IMO.

5. You said it
I read it a first time thinking it was just very like the things Kerry always talks about. Then, I realized in the context, he was saying that you guys need a Governor to do all those things - because the current one doesn't. Yet, because that's all implied it reads like apple pie and motherhood. (It's good he's on our side.) Not a single word on the man leaving - no words of farewell.

7. Exactly.
Very slick. I enjoyed the Chimes at Midnight's take this morning:

The Boston Globe Wakes Up...
and calls for Mitt Romney's resignation on grounds of being a smug ass-hole.
Normally, this would be consummation devoutly to be wished.
To be rid of Willard's mixture of bluster, egomania, inexperience and faltering ineptitude would be plainly wonderful, but Lt. Governor Healey has all of Romney's vices times two with a dose of naive' stupidity thrown in for good measure.
Putting her in power the way Weld put in Cellucci and the way Cellucci put in Swift only underscores the real problem here in Massachusetts, inconstant and inept leadership in the Governor's Office. Creating a sixth Governor in fifteen years is not the answer. unless of course, Kerry Healey were to resign as well, she is a much a symbol of Mitt's detached and depraved style of leader as anything else...

Being aloof is part of the job description!

;)

Seriously, now, consider all my lingering doubts and fears put to rest. In fact, I realize that I probably should go live in a state where it is perfectly acceptable to kick an ATM and call it a "fucking cocksucker." That is SO my kind of state.

15. WEL, those are words for only the most initiated Massholes
Edited on Thu Dec-15-05 01:17 PM by TayTay
Okay, maybe not. I hope it wasn't anyone's grandma doing that. I usually reserve the sucker word for them that really, really deserve it. (Romney, Allen, Santorum and such. Especially Santorum. That friggin bastid can kiss my ass.) Cuz, once you've gone sucker, there's not much higher you can go. (Void at Fenway Park, of course. The worst language in the world exists at Fenway Park during a Sox game. And this is after we broke the curse. Yikes.)

And Whome is exempt. She is a Duchess. She is a class act.

Can I be an official honorary Masshole? At least until I fulfill my dream of moving to the East coast? I'm definitely not nice enough for the Midwest. Everyone is so nice here, nice and cozy and down-home. I must live somewhere where my R-rated tirades are not looked upon as crude and antisocial :D

17. Of course. I think we need a new State slogan:
Edited on Thu Dec-15-05 01:36 PM by TayTay
Massachusetts: Bite me, you friggin bastid.

You Know You're From Massachusetts When...

You think of Philadelphia as the "deep south."

The person driving in front of you is going 70 mph and you are cursing him for going too slow.

As a kid you laughed at the kids down south who never got to have snow days.

Colleges are used as landmarks for directions i.e., Go past MIT until you hit Harvard. Take a right and go past Lesley. Keep going until you get to Tufts. (actual directions).

When you are proud to drink a Sam Adams and think that the rest of the country owes Bostonians a thank you.

You think three straight days of 90 is a heat wave, and 63 degrees is "on the warm side"

You cringe everytime you hear some actor/actress imitate the "Boston Accent" on TV or in a movie, if you don't have it then you're never going to get it even if you were born here.

You refer to 6 inches of snow as a "dusting."

You don't think you have an attitude.

Everything in town is "a five minute walk."

When out of town, you think the natives of the area you're visiting are all whacked

You have no idea what the word compromise means.

You believe using your turn signal is a sign of weakness.

You don't realize that you talk twice as fast as everyone else.

You're anal, neurotic, spasmatic & stubborn.

You think if someone is nice to you, they must want something or are from out of town.

You think 63 degree ocean water is warm.

You think the Kennedys are misunderstood.

You think it's your God-given right to cut someone off in traffic.

You can actually find your way around Boston.

You think the rest of the country owes you for Thanksgiving and Independence Day.

When the words 'WICKED' and 'GOOD' go together.

You actually know how to merge from 6 lanes of traffic down to one.

You do not recognize the letter "R" as a part of the English language.

You've slammed on your brakes to deter a tailgater

Paranoia sets in if you can't see a Dunkin Donuts, ATM or CVS within eyeshot at all times.

You keep an ice scraper and can of de-icer on the floor of your car...year round

You order iced coffee in January

You drive 45 minutes to New Hampshire to save $5 in sales tax

You've say bubbler instead of water fountain.

You think of $320,000 as cheap for a house.

Your school classes were canceled because of frozen and burst pipes.

You think 70 degrees is hot and a perfectly fine time to go to the beach or pool.

You know the holy trinity is Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks and, Friendly's. There's at least 2 of the three on any major intersection.

24. That's perfect!
Describes one of my college roommates and still dear friend. I've had a few blurry times (don't ask me where or when, bars, rented homes and large groups involved) in Mass, so I never believed the hype.

Love that slogan.

25. Speaking of which, I have been practicing
and I think I've got the word 'bastid' down. Does that count? Thank you, Prof Higgins, for that lesson.
Other than that, my assimilation is pretty slow going. I think I will have to stick with my SW PA accent (which I didn't know I had until recently).

It's the friggin that really sets the word off, makes it so special anyway.

18. Tay, Santorum's days are numbered
But it's going to be great fun to watch him sink further to the bottom as we prepare to kick his ass out. You, and everyone else here at JK are welcome to come to PA and share the joy in just a few short months.
There will be the foulest of language, I promise, but it will be used in the most festive manner when Mr Casey takes the state in a landslide. Pittsburghers can be just as vulgar as the worst Masshole. Take my word.
IMO, Santorum IS the biggest fucking asshole in the senate, bar none. But not for long. Soon, someone else will have that distinction.
Y'all (sorry, younze) come celebrate with us. It will be an occasion to remember.

14. God, this guy is the exact opposite of my governor!
Mark Warner would never bash Virginia or any state for that matter. AND, he would have loved to have served another term in Virginia, but it's not allowed. I watched a speech where he talked about how you're limited on what you can get done in one term. This Romney character is saying the exact opposite -- that he's gotten everything done that he wants to get done. That is a totally bizarre statement as government work is never done. Yeah, you're right Tay Tay -- I have one so so senator (Warner) and a really, lousy, terrible senator (aka Barfbag), so you've got it way over me on the national level. But . . . we did have a great governor (probably the best governor in the nation) and another Democrat to start in January. So I guess I should count my blessings.

26. OMG! That is great!
What happened over at MassDems anyway? Somebody has been doing some great, great work. These paraodies are wicked funny and just plain wicked. I love the part where Mittens cuts Fernstrom (sp, the MassRNC guy) loose. Now that's funny. (They should all be put on a leaky boat and sailed off into the hahbah (harbor.)

Hey, I'm going to this: http://www.massdems.org/docs/DCIflier1.pdf Any other Mass folks want to go learn how to be more effective campaigners? (And I want to be a delegate again. I heard next year's nominating con should be fun. All the big principles will be there.)

We must save Massachusetts from it's Rethug Governors. We simply must. This is intolerable. These fucking no account, no show carpetbaggers that we've had in there lately are poison. (And they have been pissing me off as well. Mittens now won't even join with states like New Hampshire on the environmental standards. The shame of it all.)
