Republicans Refuse to Honor Springsteen

By DONNA DE LA CRUZ : Associated Press Writer
Nov 18, 2005 : 8:33 pm ET

WASHINGTON -- Bruce Springsteen famously was "born in the USA," but he's getting scorned in the U.S. Senate.

An effort by New Jersey's two Democratic senators to honor the veteran rocker was shot down Friday by Republicans who are apparently still miffed a year after the Boss lent his voice to the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.

The chamber's GOP leaders refused to bring up for consideration a resolution, introduced by Sens. Frank Lautenberg and Jon Corzine, that honored Springsteen's long career and the 1975 release of his iconic album, "Born to Run."

No reason was given, said Lautenberg spokesman Alex Formuzis. "Resolutions like this pass all the time in the U.S. Senate, usually by unanimous consent," he said.

1. I saw that. It's all politics.
my favorite part is Lautenbergs quote:

"Even if the Republicans don't like (Springsteen's) tunes, I would hope they appreciated his contributions to American culture."

Throw the Republicans out in 2006!

2. What a stupid thing to do, this just shows how childish and
vindictive they are. NJ and Bruce fans will not forget.

5. It wouldn't be much different than the songs he does write

He also really genuinely cares about people who have it tough. About 4 years ago, two daughters and I went to Asbury Park during the off season. My oldest wanted to see a Joan Jett concert and because the younger sister and I were meeting her cousin and ny sister in Philadelphia to see an Avril Levigne concert the next day, we got a room at an Asbury Park seaside hotel.

The waitress was fascinated that my young daughter wanted to see Joan Jett (way out of her time period) and asked what we thought of Springsteen. When we said he was great, she said he was an even better person than a musician. She said he had stayed very involved in Asbury Park and talked about how he had at times talked to the the young people there about drugs and other things. She spoke about how he had actually been able to reach some including her son because he was so real and could speak to them.

6. I have been following Springsteen since the late "70".
My husband been following him even longer. Or first date was suppose to be a Bruce show at a small coffee house outside Phila., the place t was so small and I was late getting ready for the date- so when we got there we couldn't get in-it was full. I have never lived down that first date. Anyway, this vindictiveness by the GOP is really getting sickening. How can anyone stand this bunch of winers?
