If you think it's good enough, I'll post it in the main forum.

I can't check things out sometimes at work. (Long story.) So I just read your blog tonight. I loved it. You have a nice gift for expressing both big and little thoughts in print. (Or how the personal relates to the public stuff.)

Nice piece. Post it.

I liked your post about discovering Kerry and accepting him as he is, wonky as hell and interesting. You went through that process rather fast. I sometimes forget that people here haven't been through the ringer with Kerry before and all the 'near death' experiences. I have that 'long knowledge' of him and still remember when he was between jobs here in MA and was doing commentary on a local TV Talk Show. (Five on Five with Avi Nelson, the jerk.) I think Kerry is an acquired taste and I went through that so long ago that I sometimes forget that he's still fairly new for so many people. That explains a lot. (I think I am so thick-skinned about the snarky posts on DU and Kos because I have been seeing snarky things about JK for 20+ years. I got used to it. He's a weebel, he'll just come back.)

You write well. Keep doing it.

2. It's great!
Some of these bloggers and so-called representatives of the grassroots have gotten a free pass, no challenge from other Democrats at all. I think it's good to put out some different voices on these topics and give the "netroots" more to think about. I posted too, and linked you in. Good going, you're fun to read!!

4. Thanks, you guys. Hmm. That must be you at the end, sandnsea. The rest
looks like spam. How do you get THAT to stop happening. I guess I should go ahead and delete it. It looks dorky.

5. I had a reflections moment tonight too!
My hubbie is away on a busines trip and I promised him that I would put my old newspapers away from the last 4 years. (I got nice plastic bins and have no excuse.) I could put the 9/11 papers away fairly easily because time has passed. I put the Red Sox stuff away, because time has passed. I lingered over all the convention stuff I saved from last year. That really was John Kerry: The Greatest Hits version. It was strange to review all that history in those papers. It was strange to see both the snarkiness of the Globe and the hope that was there in July. Sigh!

(And there really were some great articles in the Convention specials. I forgot how much some of the columnists loved 'the Kerry girls.' Not a little, but slavish, slobbering love. The kind that made one famously 'not for Kerry' columnist write that he really thought the better of the Senator cuz of his kids.) That and how insecure we in Boston really are. (We had no idea that anyone beside our mothers acutally would like us. People actually had nice things to say about Boston. Shocked the shit out of us. Sigh!)

3. Go ahead and post it. It has a lot of truth in it and maybe it will
do some good if some people see some of themselves in it.

6. sirota is a hack
I've thought that for quite awhile, ever since this:

http://www.thenation.com/doc/20050103/sirota

and this rebuttal:

http://yglesias.typepad.com/matthew/2004/12/debunking_debun.html

he just makes shit up to fit whatever theory he's pushing.

the "debunking centrism" article was just nonsense - especially when he uses as proof the two Colorado races... the Salazar brothers won because they were economic populists and not DLC corporate whores???

Ridiculous.

Ken Salazar is president of the Third Way. That's as DLC as you can get... John Salazar won CO's western slope because of a water rights referendum from the previous election where his opponent had supported pumping western slope water over to the eastern slope. J. Salazar had publicly opposed it. All politics is local!

How could I take sirota seriously after that?

8. Yikes, I posted my blog, or parts thereof, on Kos
Edited on Wed Oct-19-05 02:26 AM by LittleClarkie
and I'm getting biffed upside the head by a Sirota fan. It's too late in the evening for this shit. My caffeine wore off hours ago.

http://kerrycrat.dailykos.com/story/2005/10/19/1171/5481

Oddly enough, when the folks on my Kos diary talk about Brown and Hackett, in some ways it reminds me of Kerry and Dean, though most Kossacks wouldn't get that. The cult of personality vs a bonified liberal. Ironic.

10. I dunno
the guy in question kept repeating "did you READ the article?" and asking me about my reading comprehension, which he amusingly misspelled.

Interestingly, if you're going to agree with the Sirota article, you have to first decide that he's not talking about YOU.

I don't think Sirota's base can simultaneously be checkbook, beltway dems and also the folks out in the blogosphere, like here and DailyKos. Sirota's terminology is fuzzy at the least.

But then again, maybe the dude who kinda jumped all over my diary is as far to the left as Sirota seems to be. Hence, Sirota isn't talking about this guy, he's talking about rank and file Dems.

I still take offense.

11. I never thought of the Hackett/Brown comparison
It does have a lot of merit. I think it might be thet some of the "liberals" here may be a little shaky on philosophy. It's strange that in reality they likely agree more with Brown even on the war - because at least the positions here are more accurately known.

I wonder what Dean would have to do to make the Kossacks see him for the moderate former governor of Vermont that he is. I think it may be that they are more style than substance. Dean screams and will say the first thing that comes into his head and Hackett will call the President a Chickenhawk. This belligerent style is than seen by them as true progressive values - even though both are pretty much only moderate on the political spectrum. Both Kerry and Brown have long records of taking substanitive liberal positions, but are not the fad of the time for the Kossacks.
