Compare & Contrast Convention Kissing Styles (Warning: * Photo)

John & Teresa look like two people who love, respect and admire one another, sharing a private moment in a very public place.

Chimpy (who has his eyes open) looks like he's trying to be John Wayne by manhandling (no pun intended) his little woman and layin' one on her. Laura on the other hand, looks stiffer than a board. It boggles my mind that people find this man appealing in anyway, shape or form.

I got the idea for this thread from a hilarious thread in GD featuring various photos of ** kissing people. Yes, if my Saturday night got any more exciting it would be illegal.

1. Hey, Island Blue, my Saturday night is likewise!
My honey is selling stuff on e-bay, so I'm left to my own devices. But the Kerrys do look like they love each other, while the blivet looks like he's posing for yet another photo op.
I'm so sick of seeing his smarmy mug, BTW, and Laura's also.

27. Here are some other one's of John and Teresa
They're so cute together. Whenever they are together they're always very touchy and feely and holding hands and gentle. It's so sweet.

This one is so cute:

2. In my unbiased opinion...
Bush looks like a John Wayne wanna be...you know all those "Texan values" they spin out as if he were the real deal! I'd rather kiss a taranchala than receive that kiss from him!

And JK and THK look like the front cover of a romance book. (Wooo hooo for both of them!) They look in love.

Also...'body language'..much as I hate to refer to that subject regarding the fake cowboy and the sitting pResident....but conventional body language therapist would point to what people show unintentionally through their body language.

Bush and Laura's hearts are pointed in different directions. (diagnolly). And people usually, if they like someone will unconciously point their heart towards the people they like (love) while if they're hesitant or unsure, they will lean away, point away from the othe person's heart, or sometimes be more obvious like crossing their arms around themselves.

But look ant Kerry and Teresa--hearts are aimed at each other. (no more needed to say here without Skinner rating this forum triple XXX!)

3. Wow! Nice analysis.
That's a good point. I think that's a sweet kissing pic for THK and JK. Very sweet. (Was that at the con or the debates? I remember THK wore white at the first debate and JK got a nice big hug and kiss from her after his sterling performance.)

And I am also here on a Saturday night. But I came here after reading statistics, so, ahm, this is more exciting, I guess.

5. I think it's the debate where she wore white, but I'm not sure.
But there was pictures on yahoo images that had them on their cruise ship from lake Michigan and they looked adorble together. I think the media could have helped humanize Kerry by showing those pictures had they chosen to that instead of build Laura up and tear Teresa down. (They always build Bush up and tear any other democrat candidate down too!)

If you look closely, you can see Elizabeth Edwards behind Teresa. She was wearing that aqua suite at the convention.

On Convention Night John was set up by Vanessa, Alexandra, Andre,His band of brothers, Jim Rassman, and Max Cleland. I still have the tape. Max introduced him with an awsome speech. All the speeches were great. I loved that convention.

28. LOL yeah I remember that
Laura's was a bit more white and wrinkly at the bottom though I believe. I remember them talking about it like "hey, you wore the same thing!" type of thing. Hehe. Laura looked, to me, like she wanted to brush Teresa off and she was very friendly towards her and the daughters and George. Here's a picture from that night:

because I'm pretty sure that's Elizabeth Edwards in the background (John E's there too but you can't see him). I posted it so I should know but it was in my Photobucket and not labeled very well. I seem to remember it being from the convention though.

6. Looks like Laura is in pain!
Her body is stiff, and she did not want him to kiss her.
She looks like she is doing her "wifely duty".

But Teresa on the other hand, looks like she is saying
"Take me right here". She is totally wrapped around him.

Now that I analyzed the women, you all are going to hate me for saying this, but the look on both John, and shrub's face are just about the same. Must be that campaign-stress look.

BTW, who has that cool campaign pic of Kerry when he has that mui macho stance in front of a great crowd. I love that pic. Sort of one foot planted in front of the other and he's looks sooooooo good.

20. Actually, Laura looks kind of like a mannequin in this photo
Okay, I realize she always looks kind of like a mannequin, but you would think she could have at least faked animation on this particular night. It looks like the got her out of a department store window, dressed her up and put her on stage. Sometimes I feel kind of sorr for her - she made a bad choice in life (marrying Idiot Son) and now she has to live with it (I mean him).

I think Laura and Babs are cut from the same cloth. Tough and rather heartless.

My mom is reading the Kitty Kelly book right now. She told me that when *'s little sister was dying, nobody told him. The little sister was buried before they even told the 7-year-old *. How screwed up is that????? I'm sure a family therapist would love to get into that family's issues.

find BUSH sexy... You know those fundie women (and men) who think the swagger is just because he's got such big...

It's like someone told me last year after the dabates, "And one of them can't even talk!"

I thought they were refering to Bush BUT this fundie actually meant KERRY!

Of course, this fundies wife (a fundie herself) once told me she was well on her way to having an affair! But..hey...fundies don't do that type of thing...right?

22. actually, I had a very interesting conversation with a
person on the way home from DC.

She was talking about how issues don't make people vote for a person, but instead their 'charm and persona' do. Hence, that's why Bush is :puke: successful and why Kerry was not. Because according to her, more people found Bush sexy and charismatic while only certain people understand Kerry's quiet and intelligent charm.

Personally, she though Edwards was sexy and charming and could have won but that the New England stuff wasn't going to win elections for us.

Me...well...I spoke to someone who said her mom thought CHENEY was sexy in a certain way. Figure that out!!!

But she strongly felt we needed to find candidates who had more charisma and stop focusing on issues. (AND she was a huge Lakoff fan too...frame, frame, frame....)

I personally think if the media had shown this side of Kerry, people wouldn't have thought of him the way they did. But the media repeated the spin. AND also, the media had done it a little bit with Clinton, but that was before the media became as one-sided as they are now. Then they completely trashed Gore...They learned how to do it without out really being as brash about it with Clinton and the subtlety made it more devastating IMO.

23. I think it would be easy to draw way too much from 2 photos
I think it's fair to draw positive inferences, but am leery about drawing negative inferences.

The Bush picture is uncomfortable - but it might just be awkward for them. Even the same awkwardness in ALL pictures may mean nothing. Bush is an awful President, whether his wife and he are genuinely close can't really be known by us - and it's irrelevant.

This Kerry/THK picture is picture perfect - and I agree that it would have been great if more of the pictures that showed them together were shown last year. A very secondary reason that picture looks like the cover of a romance novel (in addition to the fact that their looks and the kiss itself) is the contrast of his very dark suit and her white one and the way their arms and hands gracefully mirror the others.

30. Gore looks so content and happy in that convention picture
I agree that that more casual picture is more telling and it is really sweet - that and some of the tape of last year do show two people who love each other.

Teresa arrived in the middle of his NYU speech - the cameras were on him, and at one point there was a slight commotion in the group, Kerry got this huge smile and he looked happier, but continued that section of his speech. He then mentioned that Teresa had just come from a different event.

My point in the other post was more that the public pictures can distort things. I imagine the RW can find good George and Laura and contrast them with a less than flattering picture of the Kerrys. It is interesting that it is much easier to find pictures of the Kerrys looking at each other or sitting or standing very close - than you can for the Bushes. It's almost as big as the oft mentioned difference inhow they deal with kids and babies.

I wonder though if part of our tendency to see this and in particular to phrase it as a comparison, is still a very bitter reaction to the media fed truism that Bush is nice and Kerry is cold -even though the opposite is more likely the case. It is intesting that the media is now finally seeing Bush as angry, petty and so bad tempered his aides are sfraid to give him bad news. (I don't think Bush in the Inside the Bubble situation would have jokingly interviewed himself, done a level check in Italian, or joked about the uncomfortable locker room. )

35. With my original post last night, I wasn't really trying to analyze
the relationships of the Kerrys and the Bushes based on one photo (taken at a time that only a handful of people have ever experienced - nomination night at a political party convention). I just saw the one of the Bushes in a thread in GD (along with other photos of * kissing people) and remembered the one of the Kerrys in a similar situation. I realize that photos can be used as weapons against public people, often with much greater effect than words can ever have.

that John and Teresa look each other in the eyes. Lots of eye contact with them whenever you see them. Laura and George aren't looking at each other. Laura's eyes are closed and Bush is, once again, looking past Laura. And whenever they are around each other they are either looking at the camera or passed each other.

45. On Laura
Look, I have to say I have no opinion about her, because she is determined to make sure no one truly knows her. She evades personal questions, and never gives any interesting info up. She is very guarded. She is considered by the MSM to be a model, traditional first lady.

Teresa on the other hand is far less predictable, and she'll give us little tidbits, that give us a glimpse into the man who is her husband as well as insights into who she is. Sometimes she sticks her foot in her mouth, but guess what? So do most of us! It's just we don't have a camera in our face and a tape recorder below our chin all the time. In that sense, the woman who was ostracized last year, was in fact more "like us" than the eternally praised one. But to anyone who would criticize her, my answer will be back that she is GOOD for him, and that's all that really matters.

The Bushes, on the other hand, are a mystery to me. Do they sleep in the same bed at the WH? What do they enjoy doing together? How much influence does she have on him? Who knows the answers to these questions.

I think in another life, if Laura had married differently, she may have been an interesting person. As it is she's been turned into a BushZombie. I have the feeling that NO woman with the exception of Mama Babs dares speak up in that family. That's just the impression I get. I could be wrong.

She is lively, thoughtful, compassionate, intelligent, motherly and outspoken. I respect Sen. Kerry a bit more because of her. He likes strong women. He doesn't put a muzzle on people and ask them to speak from the script. I like that. It works for me. (He raised strong women as daughters. I like that too!)

The Rethugs like Stepford Wives. That works for them. ('Tis a puzzlement to me.)
