I'm getting close to sleepytime but not quite there yet. Besides, you should get 1000 posts tonight, because that would be awesome. I've been here longer than you and have about 250 fewer posts. LOL, you busy little bee you.

1. I'm here
for a while. I watched the Big Chill a while ago. It was different this time. I was identifying the Bush voters. :) Harold for certain. Karen. Michael, I thought, OMG, pompous leftist pundit! Nick, KFF, absotively! It was weird watching it from the perspective of the election and cynicism and what people do with it when the realities of the world starts to set in.

2. Yo yo yo
I've never seen the Big Chill. So I totally don't get your parallels, but that's ok.

I really liked what you said earlier today (yesterday?) about the difference between leftists and liberals. I don't remember what my response was exactly, but I said something about how these fringe radical leftists are as dangerous to America as the neocons, and so we had better NOT make the mistake the Republicans did by letting the nutjobs take control of the party. God, neocons vs. hardore socialists. It'd be like Hitler vs Stalin all over again. Yucky.

6. I LOVE that movie!!
I watch it every couple of years. Not sure if it's the soundtrack or the actual movie though. As I grow older, the characters sure seem more whiney and self-indulgent! It's classic 80's boomers, the ones who are in their 50's now. Those of us in our 40's, we're a different bunch I think. I think more of us never gave up our idealism, we didn't get cynical like our older siblings seemed to. Of course, we were always trailing behind them financially so I don't think we had as much chance for money to ruin us!

I don't mind leftists so much, I just wish they'd recognize they are leftists. They will be much stronger as a group if they do that, and Democrats will have an easier time winning elections too. I don't mind having a co-operative working relationship, but they have to realize there aren't that many of them in the country as a whole and that they aren't even the base of the party. It is hysterical when they think states like Montana and Colorado won on liberal politics. If that were the case, why'd the Bush campaign keep hammering Kerry with "Massachusetts liberal"? They are just unable to use any logic whatsoever.

8. I guess the faction that really bothers me
Is the Chomsky reading anti-capitalist anti-Democrat anti-religion anti-America anti-anything to the right of Marx crowd. They're a huge minority, but they're very vocal, on DU and on my college campus. I don't even mind the peacenik hippie Greenpeace vegan Green Party crowd, as long as they don't start trying to dictate what the Democratic Party should and shouldn't be, since they are so far out of the mainstream of society. But they rabid anti-American faction is what Limbaugh and friends use to give us all a bad name, and that pisses me off, because I have little if anything in common with the lunatic fringe.

14. They're who I mean
I tend to agree with them on alot of issues actually. But you'd get as far with an anti-beef platform as some of the stuff they demand from a candidate. I don't understand why they don't see that. I wanted a candidate with true liberal values which is why I didn't choose Dean. Yet I spend most of my time around here trying to keep these people from pulling this party over the cliff. That's why I finally decided to give them a little push to the left, where they belong. Then the Democratic Party can begin to deflect some of that Limbaugh labeling.

18. Yeah, I guess I'm more moderate
Although I hate saying that... I'm definitely NOT moderate compared to anyone I know, but there are times I feel positively conservative at DU *shudder*. I just think all the "blame America for all the world's problems" rhetoric really, really pisses a lot of people off and does more to hurt the "liberal" cause than to help it. While I diagree with the actions of the government in many cases (for example, nearly everything Bush has done) saying that "America" is corrupt or evil is just batshit stupid. People hear that and think, "why on earth would I support anyone who basically has stated that they hate this country?" And they do have a valid point, which is why we need to get the Chomskyites and anti-American bunch out of any sort of spotlight in favor of liberal advocates who have a more positive and hopeful tone, and who actually care about this country enough to want to make it a better place.

I mean, I don't have a problem per se with veganism and some other "radical" liberal ideas, but they're never going to be viable political options. And Noam Chomsky does piss me off.

10. LOL Isn't That The Truth
That is all you heard from the Chimps campaign is about Kerry being a liberal from Massachusetts. I rememeber Chimp saying over and over "What would you expect from a liberal from Massachusetts" I use to wish I could slap him. Because he was rich and he was from Conn. he isn't from the South like so many dummies believe he is also from the north.

If Kerry's camp had said stuff like, "Well, what do you expect from a dumbass redneck from Texas?"

Oh, the hue and cry that would've ensued! "HOW DARE KERRY INSULT THE ENTIRE PEOPLE OF AN AMERICAN STATE! WHAT A DISGRACE!"

Such a fucking double standard, it's so pathetic.

That was so crazy! Never have figured out where they dot those numbers. They had alot of poles that was messed up during this election. Kerry was doing the right thing by running a positive campaign. You know how people get mad and they say alot of things and over at the blog that happen I laugh now to think of some of it. I glad i wasn't around here OMG! I was lucky to have time to talk to those at the campaign blog at that time much less argue with others.

I knew others had the blog covered. ;) The Kerry bashing wasn't bad, it really wasn't allowed so much. Although there was always somebody running off with whatever the latest right wing smear was. Trying to get people to understand they needed facts to fight the smear was... annoying. And the thing is, even when you come up with a great zinger, you still can't get 10 Democrats to agree on it!

34. I wish we would do something to rehabilitate the word "liberal"
I am not a "progressive" I am a liberal and proud of it. I actually think Kerry would have been better advised to say"yeah, I'm a liberal. What of it'?" It would have at least defined him more.
In a way, as far as campaigning is concerned, it is not so much "what you are" But "that you are something."
The initial idiots running the campaign didn't have a clue of how to take advantage of Kerry's good points. I wrote them a letter once expressing my concern that they weren't projecting Kerry as the clearest example of himself that he could be.Unfortunately ,he had to make up ground really fast by the time his campaign was "rescued"by Mike McCurry. I talked to him before the last debate and he agreed. He asked me where I had been during the earlier part of the campaign.I told him, I had been there just no one was listening. I felt that Kerry's outstanding feature was that he was more Presidential than anyone walking on the face of the earth. He was a President straight out of Central Casting. They should have used it.But they couldn't let Kerry be himself. That was a mistake. When Mike came on board, he released Kerry from the straightjacket and boy did that make a difference. I tell ya, if Kerry had good people and had listened to his gut, we wouldn't be looking at the shrub!
I don't blame Kerry.I never have. It is the jackasses in the DLC and the DNC. They haven't gotten the message that it isn't business as usual and it isn't 1992 and all candidates aren't Clinton!

40. No shit
All of Clinton's advisors gave Kerry the most shitastic advice in the universe. Honestly, I remember being distinctly umimpressed with Kerry until the DNC, when I finally hear him speak for the first time. Shortly after that, I got off my duff and actually learned about him... and fell in love. HOW THE HELL were his campaign managers SO IMCOMPETENT that they completely and utterly FAILED to exploit the zillions of virtues this man has going for him?

The Democratic Party needs to stop being so Clinton-centric. John Kerry was NOT a centrist from the South; he's a Massachusetts liberal, dammit, a loveable, cuddly liberal with a big heart and courage to spare. There is no way a sane nation should not have elected this incredible man in a landslide.

Bob Shrum and pals should be chased out of the Party with pitchforks and torches... but hell, they're probably already hard at work on the HIllary '08 campaign.

46. Actually , it was Ted Kennedy's people who really fucked
Kerry over. And of course Shrum was a disaster. But Schrum was more DLC instigated. That is why I think the DLC didn't really want Kerry to win. I might be wearing a tinfoil hat. I just don't know.
The Clinton people, as in Mike McCurry and Joe Lockhart ,didn't get involved until the very last second. That was really too bad because they had their shit together press wise. And they knew the pluses and minuses of their candidate. One thing I will say for the Clintonista's, they know how to make a sale.Of course ,they had a good product in Kerry.
Another thing I wonder about is why they arrived so late.If everyone knew they were the best in the business, why didn't we have them from the get go? And what was it with all the Kennedy people like Cahill?.They never really had to run an election in their lives.Ted just has to pop his name in place and he can be Senator till he dies. There is a lot about this campaign I will always wonder about.

45. I Get So Damn Sick Of People Comparing Kerry and Clinton
To me there is no comparison. Kerry is a far better man in so many ways than Clinton. I will probably get blasted for saying this but it is how I feel. Kerry don't have to be made out to be something he's not as Clinton did. Kerry has far more experience in everything you need in a president than Clinton did when he first ran. And wether people want to believe it or not Clinton wouldn't have had a pot to piss in and gotten anywhere as president had it not been for Democrats like Kerry backing him and saving his ass more than once. I liked Clinton and I voted for Clinton both times but Clinton wasn't the best president we have ever had and he sure as hell isn't the best man walking today as so many want to believe. Kerry has the man beat by a long shot in more ways than one. And Thats how I feel and I will stand by that and don't mean to piss others off about Clinton but facts are facts.

16. Just stepped into the Clark forum
Quite a bit of Kerry hate over there, which suprised me... I really like Clark (not that he has any control over who supports him), and didn't figure his supporters to jump on the bash Kerry bandwagon. I just figured they were all more like LittleClarkie, who obviously liked Clark a lot but ended up liking Kerry too.

Shit. There was one funny post, however, about how all of Kerry's support was falling away now because people in GD were being bastards about him... do they not realize that the Kerry supporters group is the biggest Group on DU? And that everyone trashing him in GD never liked him to begin with?

Hell no. Our forum, our numbers are only getting larger. I do like Clark a lot, and hope that he is considered for a position in a Kerry cabinet, but John Kerry is the man - and a very large number of people agree.

So take that, bastards. I'm parking my ass here in the Kerry forum and never leaving again.
