Fox News still raggin' on John Kerry's service records, still ignoring Bush's lack of same.
One of the Grapevine items today 5/24/05 was about John Kerry's military records and Brit Hume reported on how long it's taken him to release them. Surely they jest!

Brit read "Four months after he promised to release all his military records by signing what is known as Form 180, former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry now says, quote, I have signed it. But when asked by a journalist when he did so, and when his records would be made public, Kerry declined to answer. Well, a Kerry spokesman has now filled in some of the blanks, telling the Boston Globe that Kerry signed the form last Friday, but has yet to send it into the Navy. The spokesman says, quote, that's the next step, insisting, quote, it will happen in the next few days, the Navy will then send out the records."

Comment: Unbelievable. Five and a half YEARS after Bush first ran for office and we have yet to see his full military service records, yet Fox is willing to make much ado over Kerry's slowness. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds.

There have been reams and reams of paper on this. I think it would take more time to read the damn pile of paper than * actually spent on duty in the Reserves.

2. This is unbelievable!

Kerry already has far more records on his web site than Bush ever produced and he is not under any legal obligation to show any of this. Maybe Kerry did a few more important, timely pieces of work in the last 4 months. His records can't possibly impact his current job and he's not running for anything until 2008. The snarkiness of both Vennocci and Fox probably underscores why he wants to have everything checked out. He knows they'll go through it at leisure and take anything that looks wrong to hit him with and if they find nothing, they won't even grudgingly concede that they were wrong. Then they'll demand his elementary, prep school, college, and law school records. Who knows he might have been tardy?

They also ignore that the official records show Kerry was a hero who was considered good enough at the end of his VN service to be given the job as aide to an Admiral. Certainly the same chain of command that smeared him last year had to sign off on this.

Bush concedes that he wasn't flying and didn't take a required physical. There are also acknowledged gaps in Bush's record, while Kerry sure had a lot of fitness reports which say pretty positive things. This is similar to the quality of their college years and to comments on their advanced education (Bush's MBA, Kerry's law degree) where Bush was a drunk frat boy Bully and Kerry a well respected over achiever. As you say their hypocrisy knows no bounds. The unfairness is amazing. Kerry has genuine achievements he can point to for every year of his life since his teens, Bush ruled out people looking at his life until he was 40.
