<Repaying a political ally from his failed presidential bid, U.S. Sen. John Kerry on Saturday endorsed mayoral candidate Antonio Villaraigosa in the race to lead the nation's second-largest city.

The 2004 Democratic presidential nominee said Villaraigosa had worked to put more police officers on the streets and provide health care for more residents.

"I'm not here against anybody," Kerry told hundreds of Villaraigosa supporters at Los Angeles Valley College. "I'm here for somebody who has a set of hopes and dreams."

Villaraigosa, a city councilman and one of Kerry's national campaign co-chairs last year, "will be a mayor for all the people of Los Angeles," the senator said.>

1. I saw John Kerry at the Villaraigosa event....
...in Los Angeles today !! I did get the chance to shake his hand and tell him "Thank You" for all he did during the election and for what he is continuing to do for our country. He looked great and struck a very positive tone with his message to the crowd in support of Antonio Villaraigoso's vision for the City of Los Angeles. I did take a few pictures and, if they turn out, will try to post them tomorrow. (I may need a little guidance, as I am new to this. :7 )

8. well
during the Villaraigosa/Kerry event, this lady pushed her way to the front and was being really, really loud. Me and my friend couldn't help but crack up and the lady behind me got really annoyed and started yelling at her. I must say though, that loud lady got a lot of Kerry action. He spoke to her in Spanish, signed a bunch of her crap. It was a very odd but fascinating moment.

10. Kerry spoke to her in Spanish?
I didn't know he spoke Spanish. I knew he spoke French and I thought he might have a smidgen of German, but I didn't know he spoke Spanish. Learn something new every day I guess. (I also believe he speaks English much betterer than I do, but that is hardly difficult.) HuH! Okay, Senator, what else have you been hiding all the years? Out with it, I demand to know.

11. kinda
he's given speeches in Spanish before but I'm sure he gets help. He didn't speak like complicated sentences to her or anything. She just said to him "Para ti" (and gave him some shirt) and he said "Para mi? Gracias". It wasn't anything hardcore. Anyone could say that I imagine but at least he tries. Unlike some people who butcher the language (a certain White House occupant).
