1. I'm not in love with cats
They're okay in small doses but they can be the biggest assholes.

3. I have a dog and he can be just too obedient
for my tastes. He is too eager to please and does everything I tell him to do. I can't stand that in a living creature. I like cats because they give you a hardy look of complete annoyance when you politiely ask them to do something. I admire that in a pet. (Or a person.)

Again, that's why I'm a Dem. I like independence of thought in people and animals. I'm not sure if that is liberally pure or just dumb, but that's what I like.

17. Whoa boy
Here we go again. Ironic this should be posted now.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3189974

I had read a little on Anna Mae previously. An amazing woman, truly amazing. I can't find any logical reason the FBI would kill her, and I don't believe her daughters would go along with a cover up either. Here's a good piece on how the arrest came to be, a copy of a US News article. If you've got time or are interested.

Hard to say whether this will turn into another Peltier because after defending Graham for years, Peltier's backing away so the left might too. Or it could be argued about for the next year on DU, we'll see I guess.

8. He probably is too
Although I'm not completely sure whether it was revenge or he saw his brother being beaten or just a straight-up shooting. I haven't gone through that case like I did Peltier.

9. It's possible they both are.
Sigh! I am actually a big law-and-order person. But I can see both sides. It's possible they were both guilty and incorrectly prosecuted at the same time. There are arguments to be made that the cops did manufacture evidence in the pursuit of the right suspects. That does happen. This makes for a whole lot of 'grey area' to chew over.

I hate liberally pure when it comes to this. It gets in the way of the actual truth.

10. I started this thread because some liberally pure
DUer did an anti-hero worship thread. Very cynical saying that there are no heroes just myths. That's blather. There are a lot of people that are being good now. Just because I admire people does not mean that I think I can't be good too.

15. That's just sad
and so untrue. Heroes are everywhere, it's just that they are also human and have faults. Some people never learned how to reconcile the fact that real live human beings can be both amazingly courageous, honest and committed to good causes and also have deeply human faults. Sigh! If anything in public life annoys me more than this, I can't think of it. It's that American tendency to build someone up, then find a way to bring them down.

16. I read Tarot Cards
which is not liberally pure at all. (It's not scientific, although I also don't believe it involves anything more than common human insight into the behavior of others.)

You'd be surprised how many rational and down to earth types want to get their cards read. (That's what I find it interesting.) Memorizing the cards was easy, as it is simply basic repetitive religious, spiritual and naturalistic patterns, arranged around the classic 'journey of life' motif. (Ahm, well I found it easy. I do pattern recognition rather easily.)

ACtually, I' mot sure if this is a liberally pure or liberally not pure thing. Might be bit of both.

Half of the Dems applaud it. (It looks crunchy.)

Half of Dems hate it because is is not reason based. (and it looks crunchy.)

Not sure. Been embraced and accosted. (Sigh! Sounds like DU.)

23. I have bunches of them
And in my own defense, it's because there is this bookstore in Salem that has everything at 40% off all the time. (So I got the Baseball Tarot for $12.00, book and deck. I love that one. It's actually quite good.) Ahm, I think Salem in general has bunches of them, but I only hunt for these things at that bookstore because I love getting the bargains.

My current fav is the Halloween Dec. I love the pics.

20. I believe in Tarot Cards, too.
I believe in a lot of spiritual phenomena, which does not seem liberally pure to me. Although, I don't understand why.

22. Me too!
For years! Even briefly a few times for (gasp!) money!

There's a subset of lefty that thinks everything that smacks of any "supernatural" anything is part of the opiate of the people or leads to fascism or something. I think it's ridiculous, but the prejudice is out there.

Personally, I don't think Tarot is "supernatural". I don't pretend to understand exactly how it works, but it does, and I believe it's connected to things about the unconscious mind or maybe the collective unconscious, and we just don't understand it very well yet. (And if research on it is going to be done with MK ULTRA type programs, it might be for the best that we don't). I've also worked some with the I Ching and with automatic writing, and I think the processes are very similar: something to keep the hands busy, and a series of symbols to be interpreted. I have a friend who's a Surrealist painter and she says the mental state and process is very similar to that as well.
