These Marines Forgive and Forget

It was party time for Sen. John Kerry's staff and alumni from his 2004 presidential campaign last week at the Democrat's favorite Capitol Hill hangout across from the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks and HQ when a group of marines approached him. But they didn't scold him for recently suggesting that the military attracts mediocre students. Instead, they yukked it up and even bought the vet a shot of tequila--which he downed.

Anyway, thanks for the story -- that's pretty good. I still wonder if those troops in Iraq who made that sign making fun of "Carry", were also not pissed and just enjoying joshing him. I mean -- they're probably bored sometimes being stuck on a base.

But it's always good to see a side segment, even an ephemeral side segment, in the MSM that goes against the RoveCo-promoted grain. The important thing here, despite the semi-snarky headline attached to the story, is that these Marines neither forgave nor forgot. They didn't have to, and they shouldn't ever have to. All they did was acknowledge the pre-existing truth: Senator Kerry is on their side, and they know it. The artificially-enhanced pronoungate sideshow doesn't mean squiddly-dot to these guys. They know the real deal when they see it. So they did what Marines do for one of their own: they bought him a drink and shook his hand and told him "Semper Fi."
