Positive (and interesting) dkos diary - from a Kerry critic

Please check me on this, but - I think if you take this post on it's own, it's pretty damned good, and I hope some folks will go recommend it and post a nice comment. Burying the hatchet so to speak, in the ground not in your (hopefully former) opponent.

FWIW - After looking at a few of his comments, I think he was one of those who was unaware of the entire context of the heyjohn affair, and became antagonistic because of false premises. I suggest we need to be sensitive to that sort of thing when we post - not everyone will come into a thread knowing previous history, and we should try to be patient in informing them. OTOH, this one also didn't seem to be too open to new information during the heat of the dialogue, but that's not so unusual in blogworld, and doesn't mean he won't absorb the facts later. Let's leave the door open with these folks.

1. Hey -- we can all come together to give it to the GOP

I rec'd and commented, too.

It actually showed our fight to actually be a good one -- I'm glad we had it after all, if it means the GOP is shaking in their boots.

Maybe someone should forward that letter to Hillary's people -- that may motivate her out of her slumber.

I don't think that guy was terribly negative -- I guess I would have to look back. There were actually only, say, 5 haters. Some of the others simply wanted JK to give more and didn't have an agenda. You're right, MH -- we do have to make sure we are polite and just get the facts out, and save the smackdowns for the known haters.

2. Even with the "known haters"

I think we come across better, and represent our point of view better, if we can control our tempers and keep our posts on topic and rational, and stay away from ad hominems or unsupported negative claims against others. That doesn't mean we shouldn't call BULLSHIT or even drop the f-bomb sometimes, just that we should be damn sure it's appropriate when we do.

Note, I make no claim to fulfill this ideal all the time myself! I am sure I made some rash posts in the last few days, that I could have worded better. But I think it's good to contemplate the ideal approach, and try to get better at it.

Okay, sorry for the sermon - otherwise I agree completely with your post!
