Sigh...still bias out there
Someone in the "Books:Fiction" group posted a thread about "The Time Traveler's Wife" and started it off with "Despite it's science fictiony title..."

I replied in defense of science fiction and certainly I don't mean to pick on this person. As this person pointed out they are fans of good science fiction.

It's just strange that people still feel the need to make this disclaimer about a good story when it is classified as "science fiction" when there is just as much - probably a lot more - crap out there that is not science fiction. Someone could easily make the same statement about any genre that a book falls into..."Despite it being a period piece..." "Despite it being a contemporary setting..." etc, etc...

1. To Be Fair
I'll often refer to other stuff that way.

"I liked Such and Such even though it was plain fiction."

I really don't get into plain fiction stories...

...set in vermont at a dairy farm where a young boy is ready to come of age before the onset of his father's cancer....

2. Ha ha!! That's exactly how I feel about it.
"Restoring an old house near the Connecticut seashore, a young woman learns lessons of love and life from her estranged, dying aunt."

3. LOL How bout this?
"Two former dog show competitors come to terms with the loss of their prizewinning terriers, while finding a newfound respect for each other."
