So for Easter, I watched a movie about the Son Of God...
Perseus, the son of Zeus, that is.

Yes, it was that stinker Clash of the Titans. In which two of our finest actors made complete fools of themselves - Liam Neeson as Zeus and Ralph Fiennes as Hades.

Though even I have to admit, the Medusa was pretty cool. She turned several characters to stone, which had no discernible effect on their acting skills.

And I was rewarded with one those Hidden Atheist Messages I'm always watching for.

When Zeus comes down from Olympus to have a chat with his kid, Perseus says: "For someone who created us, you sure don't know much about us. We live, fight and die for each other. Not for you."

1. That movie was such a let down
I remember looking forward to it because the trailer's "RELEASE THE KRAKKEN!!!!1" part was pretty awesome.

7. I kept hearing that as...
"Release the Kragen!"

And thought people were being attacked by a giant auto-parts store...

3. Which one are you talking about?
I loved the old one but have yet to see the new one...I have read a lot of people here on DU say it is not that good. Of course I will watch it regardless but just curious to get your opinion if you have seen it.

Thanks.

5. I am talking about the old one. I saw the new one, but I don't remember it.
That might be a bad sign. I first saw the old one as a child, I thought it was one of the best movies.

6. Me too! I was a child & loved it!
That is why I really wanted to see the new one but I have heard a lot of people say it was really bad. The acting is the biggest complaint I have heard. I guess the best way to tell is to watch it! I am going to see if Netflix has it & if so try & watch it this weekend.

8. I've seen both...
And liked the old one a LOT better.

The new one is worth watching for the effects. Flying bat-people out of Hades, a really neat Medusa who I thought eerily resembled Michele Bachmann, the Kraaken, etc.

And any atheist has to love the scene where the entire population of Argos suddenly becomes atheist. They topple a giant statue of Zeus, only leaving his feet.

But the acting and writing are just awful, IMO. Liam Neeson goes thru the whole movie with one expression, which I translated as - "Where's my paycheck?"

If you want to have a real blast, invite some friends over and MST3K it!
