I was a bit shocked when I saw the locks and the warning. However, I reviewed the other forums and found similar messages under religious and political forums.

8. No, from what I hear, but

with the warning it seems we'll have to defend ourselves alone with no back up now if we disagree with 15 other people at the same time. Just like in real life. I'm beginning to wonder if there is ANYWHERE in life I can go and not be ganged up on.

Open invitation to the rest of you to drop in, too. This started as a place to gripe about over-rated celebrities, but we've gradually added to it...including an Atheist's & Skeptics board.

Most of us posting there have "known" each other for some time on-line, and it's a good group. The members who are Xian won't hesitate to tell you that...but OTOH, I've never seen one of them complain to the admins about the non-believers. And we get pretty outspoken and crude sometimes.

I've been very outspoken against instatutionalized religion lately, but carefully wording my posts as to avoid deletion or worse. I know its not a popular issue for people to deal with, but censoring us isn't going to solve anything and is the same sort of demonization we go through that allows the Fundamentalist Movement to keep gaining power.

do a search using some keywords in the warning. It was this group, a couple of specific religious groups, and some Democratic politician-specific groups (I presume they've been slagging the others' candidates off).

Basically it boils down to not using this subforum(or the other subforums) as a marshalling location to attack other members or groups. Furthermore we shouldn't use these places as gripe sessions about our treatment in the rest of the forum.

From discussions with the admins I get the impressiont that they don't want to be totalitarian on this issue. They are coming down hard initially to establish the rule but there will be some flexibility.

I suggest if we have a problem in other groups we can explore what went wrong here with each other as long as we don't turn it into a grudge match. At least thats my take on it. If you want to see the issues that gave rise to this take a look through the Ask the Admin forum. You may be able to pick up on the clues there.

I've seen some discussions but nothing outrageous. i think it's important to be respectful and mature. But when things get so serious that you can't have fun or have a sense of humor, or be a little snide or sarcastic, what the heck, we are all here to learn. Maybe the more defensive and guarded someone is with their viewpoint the more others want to taunt, tease, and torment them. Human nature. It's not fun to tease the unresponsive.
