First Aid Station
Is it possible that we can use this group to nurse our wounds after ending up engaged in debate with theists in another forum when the debate was particularly painful? I'm kind of hiding out here for a while and nursing my wounds. Some people cannot stand the thought of anyone pointing out that not everyone believes in a God.

1. This forum is what we make it.
A lot of people don't take kindly to us non-believers. They're a lot more comfortable with insane religious Islamic wackos, because at least those people believe in SOMETHING. Us atheists, ooh, we're scary.

2. So true
And they swear up and down that their views are absolutely the "right" ones even after you disprove them with everything from proven facts about medical science to extreme contradictions in the so called "good book".

I am glad to know there is a group where I can come lick my wounds and then enjoy some comraderie, before putting on what little armor I have and stepping back out for round 150,000,000,000,000 in the battle between reason and religion.

4. That sums it up exactly.
Thank you for that. I needed Calvin & Hobbes back in my life. I miss them.

5. Heck, I come here...
...just to recover from READING some of the threads in Religion & Theology. Or that "Liberal People Of Extreme Credulity" group.

I always have to restrain myself from thanking them for the Kerry Prayer threads....which obviously did so much to help get President Kerry elected...

6. I know.

I'm constantly pointing out the ask and you shall receive thing never works. They make up every excuse in the book as to why all of my prayers (back when I wasted my time trying) get answered with a no. That's not what the bible says, but they won't argue from the bible (some of them), they'll swear up and down they know it all without having to use that. Huh? I don't understand them.

8. Oh good grief.
Anytime a poor oppressed "person of faith" feels bad about being on DU, they can sign off and participate in the real world, where Christianity is *assumed*, where their currency, their courthouses, and their elected officials ALL reinforce their faith, and where every recent Republican AND Democratic candidate for the presidency has ended their speech with "God Bless America."

DU is one of the very few places where us non-believers can feel free enough to say what we want, without losing friends, family members, or jobs because of it. But no, we're supposed to hold our tongues HERE, too. Do some of us cross the line? Sure. Buck up, believers. Alert if you find it offensive, let the moderators do their jobs. Otherwise just ignore. Or go back to real life, where everything is set up to support your religion.

9. I couldn't resist.
I think I finally made the best point yet. I pointed out that that post was akin to a verbal threat to assault any of us who disagree with them. It IS what it sounded like.

I wish I could get by with posting something about the so-called "persecuted" Christians telling them not to worry. They can just rise again in 3 days. I KNOW that one would get deleted though. People just don't have a sense of humor any more.

10. Oh, that's a particularly rollicking one!
I'm sick of it.

I knew a dope pusher once who was a pretty decent sort. Maybe I should start a "Don't say bad things about Drug pushers, they're not ALL bad people" thread?

hope I gave as good as I got in there.
