1. There is a lot of info there
It's going to take a while to digest, but thanks for bringing it to my attention.

2. Interesting graph.
When you select "no religion" and "view by year" you can watch every single one of those dots grow.

Looking at that just makes me feel good, kinda like the election results map for 2008.

Some of the user comments are, as usual, off the deep end:

"Don't let this discourage one true Christian. We are far more in number than anyone could ever track and count."

Isn't that the same thing they say about rodents in your house? "For every mouse you see there are several more that stay hidden."

3. I was surprised to see NM shifting toward no religion
because the megachurch thing with prosperity theology has been very seductive here. In addition, this is still a rural/agricultural state, and farmers and ranchers tend to be both religious and conservative.

I guess prosperity theology is starting to turn people off when the only one who prospers is the Lexus driving preacher who is living large on 10% of their income.

I do know my neighbors, mostly Hispanics whose families have been in the state for >400 years, are completely non religious, "Oh, I guess I sorta believe, but living a good life is a lot more important than going to some building every Sunday."

I'm always amazed by how good this state is culturally for a transplanted Boston socialist.
