New Sins!
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 11:37 AM by lizerdbits
I got all excited that there were things I needed to do immediately but alas I was disappointed.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23557650/

"VATICAN CITY - A Vatican official has listed drugs, pollution, genetic manipulations as well as social and economic injustices as new areas of sinful behavior.

Monsignor Gianfranco Girotti said in an interview published Sunday by the Vatican's daily newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, that known sins increasingly manifest themselves as behavior that damages society as a whole."

So birth control is evil but so is damaging the planet. Do they not see overpopulation as damaging the planet? As for genetic manipulations will they be opposed to gene therapy for cancer and diseases? How do they feel about the last 10,000 years of agriculture?

ETA: Social and economic injustice acknowledgement is good. Agreeing with catholic church on two things......might explode.......

2. Must resist urge....
Ah, to hell with resistance.

Is the abuse of children by priests, and subsequent cover up of that behavior by the Church, one of the new "sinful behaviors" on that list?

11. Shuffling fugitive clergy off to Latin America
Like some plot to a crime movie--where the investigators won't get to talk to them.

4. Glad you asked!
"Closer to home, Girotti was asked about the many “situations of scandal and sin within the church,” in what appeared to be a reference to allegations in the United States and other countries of sexual abuse by clergy of minors and the cover-ups by hierarchy.

The monsignor acknowledged the “objective gravity” of the allegations, but contended that the heavy coverage by mass media of the scandals must also be denounced because it “discredits the church.” "

So diddling kids is a sin, but no bigger than drawing attention to priests diddling kids. Suffer little children, indeed. :grr:

5. Oh really?
So what about the huge amount of attention the RRRW pays and draws to the "sin" of homosexuality? Is that worse than the sin of homosexuality itself?

What a bunch of apologist asshats. :eyes:

7. Funny how an all-knowing, all-seeing god
did not see these as sins during the time of Moses.

8. lol!
Hey man, my avatar is really accurate now. I'm going to hell for helping to make genetic engineered vaccines!
How is it that people who get sick and die from HIV/AIDS are dying because they are sinners, but the ones infected by live normal lives with protease inhibitors (based on genetic knowledge of viri) are also sinners?
What hypocrites.

10. And couldn't Mr. Omnipotent do a frigging UPDATE already?
All that slavery stuff is just embarassing, for one thing.

I'm trying to remember one of the best descriptions of God v. 1.0 (The Basic Hebrew Release) that I ever read. I'm pretty sure it was in I, Claudius, with the Roman emperor sitting thru a long-winded description of their god by some Jewish holy men.

The emperor thinks about it for awhile, then says something like: "What a strange religion! Their God is petty and jealous and won't even bother talking to them, let alone other gods, like our Roman deities. And he must be a very small God. They keep him locked up in a little box called The Ark Of The Covenant..."

That's just an approximation, but I remember the description had me laughing out loud and nearly falling off the couch.

13. I heard a Priest trying to explain these new sins on NPR. It was a little pathetic.
From what I could gather, these aren't mortal sins. Apparently if you do these things, it'll just piss off God but he won't make you burn in hell for ever and ever amen.
