While discussing yesterdays...
outcome of the Dover, PA schoolboard election and ID, a fundie stated that ID should be taught, as every child does not have the opportunity to attend Sunday school and then asked me what I was afraid of? and that I wasn't secure in my nonbelief!!!:wtf:

1. Opportunity?!?!?!
The thing is they probably meant that in all sincerity. Plenty to be scared of right there in that statement.

3. Ask him why he wants America to slip into third world status.

And that is surely where we are heading. We already fall behind most of the industrial countries in our education of children.

Then ask him how not preparing the kids of Kansas to qualify for any university outside their borders will help, because if Kansas's curiculum doesn't fit the standards of the National Institute of Science, and they now don't, no outside university will take them. And that's what happens when you allow third century ideas to control a twenty first century society.

IMHO America deserves the drubbing we are going to get. It was the ostrich headed citizens of our very own nation that are responsible for our coming fall.

4. At least the fundie was being honest about the issue
Many ID advocates I know claim that the issue has nothing to do with God or religion.

Every time some religious nut wants to preach at my kid about his/her religious views, I ask when it would be possible for me to come over to teach his/her kids how to be atheists. If bullshit religious viewpoints are shared in our schools, I'd like to be able to teach about the dangers, dishonesty, and fallacious nature of God.

It's frightening to think about the ignorance that has infected our country...

5. What are we "Afraid of"?
Several things, foremost the idea that the already-overloaded school day will now have to have time set aside for "Religion in a Lab Coat, calling Itself Science". where's the time going to come from?

Well, since ID is "science", they'll just take time that was going to be used to teach cell theory, or the importance of washing your hands and covering your face when you sneeze (important with Flu season upon us!)out of the lesson plan to make room for Jeebus in a white smock...

The mere IDEA that you can dress Religion up in a lab coat (FSM, I LOVE that quote! Thank you, Prometheus!) and thus it becomes SCIENCE is bullshit. You'd HAVE to be a delusional Woo-Woo to believe that. why not take the little honey from the "If you won't talk to your son about Sex..." ad and put HER in a lab coat and then turn her loose on your son? Hey, it's "SCIENCE" now, isn't it?

And most importantly, I'm afraid of our already anti-science young people (it's for NERDS! I'm too COOL for that!) will fall further and further behind in the world of technology, thus allowing nations who IGNORE crackpots to eat our lunch again and again.
