I'm feeling slightly guilty...
...but does anyone beside me find some pleasure in the media-fed crap going on between the Clinton and Obama campaigns? I'm really, really hoping for a brokered convention, and I think this helps the cause. (Bad, bad Democrat!)

1. is it just me or has anyone noticed how this place has
disintegrated since they have given up on Gore as a candidate? What was once an united front has imploded into something resembling a food fight in an elementary school cafeteria.

6. Hey, no fair editing before I can reply!

(I'm at work, so I can't pay full attention here.)

How about:

"like 100 WalMart shoppers at 6pm on December 24th going after the last 10 {insert whatever obnoxious gadget is currently popular}?”

(I have to admit your footer line gave me the idea. They're trying to put a WalMart in my community, and the local paper has an anonymous call-in line where they later print some the comments. A few opponents of WalMart have referred to the problem of "attracting trailer trash.")

8. It is nuts out there, isn't it?
Don't try to smooth things over either. I just look for generic threads these days... (please, please, please give us a brokered convention!)

9. I am not even sure he wants it anymore
he sure went out of his way to stay out of the fray. I don't blame him but I think he just wanted to sit this one out and not have to fix Bush's mess that if he had been in never would have happened.

Since I have pulled back and not been so obsessed with wanting Gore in I am beginning to look at it like the rest of the country...even if a brokered thing happened I think it would go to either Obama or Clinton. Just being honest not what I want.

To me Gore is a fantasy that isn't close to coming true. Sorry to be a downer but thats how I believe these days.

10. Unfortunately,
I think I have to agree with you. I started phone banking locally for Obama last evening. Had a little chat with the fellow organizing the Obama group here in Rochester and told him what I had been doing for Gore (felt honesty was probably appropriate so he would know that Obama was my second choice). Anyway, talking a bit about a brokered convention, he felt fairly strongly that if Gore got in then (or even after super Tuesday) that that would really create lots of enemies in the entire Democratic party - not just with the Obama and Clinton people. I guess at this late stage I would have to agree with him. The only way I would see that coming out good for Gore is if one of the candidates in the deadlock (probably not Hillary) directly appealed to Gore (privately or publicly and probably with the thought that the appealer would get the VP slot on the ticket) to come in and be the compromise candidate. What I can't quite see is who blinks first in a brokered convention. If, for instance it was 40-40-20 (Clinton, Obama, Edwards) I could almost see Edwards throwing his delegates to Obama (but all of them might not go). If that were the case, then Obama walks away with it. But, if all 3 decide to stay in the mix, how does it resolve itself? Another scenario would have Edwards dropping out if he isn't doing well or runs out of $$. Then it really becomes a 2 person race and one of them, presumably, would have enough delegates to carry the day at the convention. We'll know a whole lot more after Feb. 5.

As an aside, isn't it fun to watch the Republicans eating their own?

11. Respectfully disagree
Its a loooooonngg way to the convention and if the three of them continue to bicker and whine, the public may just be interested in someone that can come in fresh with all the qualities needed to win in the fall. The three of them are doing a good job of ripping the others to shreds. And really, what else would you expect an Obama supporter to say? Of course he's going to see it from that perspective. Obama is no further above the fray than the other two.

I am still holding out for a brokered convention for both parties. I still run into Republicans who would vote for Gore if he was a choice. I do think he is the candidate that could bring in a landslide in the fall if he were our nominee. How that would happen - have no idea but that is my hope.

12. Wait a minute,
I'm not really an Obama supporter. I'm mostly an ABC supporter and I think here in NY we need to show Hillary that she doesn't own the state. I sort of feel like a wolf in sheep's clothing doing the phone banking for Obama, but I just felt I had to put some energy for the campaign somewhere and there was nothing left to do for Gore at this point. In retrospect (and ain't hindsight always 20-20) we never should have shut down our effort to get Gore on the ballot here in NY. If we could have achieved that, that would have put him in the midst of things and the whole fiasco in NH might never have turned out that way. Earlier in the season, Gore was polling higher than Hillary or anyone else in NH. So, I hope you're not too upset with me for doing a bit of work for Obama. Nowhere else to go right now.

13. Not upset at all...
just don't think the chances for him at the convention have disappeared as the Obama person felt. I think channeling your energy into another campaign is fine and certainly your prerogative to do so. Rather admirable actually - I just can't do that as I don't like any of them well enough to support them with another voter.

Rod, takes some pretty rough words to get me riled. I think you are a fine person.

14. I'll add you
to my fan club. That makes two of you - the other one is my wife (although she's a Hillary supporter). No hurt feelings here. If Gore shows any indication of getting into this thing any time before the convention, I'll drop my new found friends at the Obama circle like NH dropped its effort for Gore.

15. Can I ask something impertinent?
What are the reasons your wife is supporting HRC? And as a side note, check out the HRC forum on this site and tell me if you see anything odd there. It should be quite striking to the casual observer.

16. Not sure of all the reasons,
Edited on Fri Jan-18-08 05:00 PM by rodbailey
but part of it is the possibility of the first woman president. She is a strong environmentalist (as I like to think I am) but always felt Gore was better doing what he was doing than if he were president and had his hands tied by Congress, etc. She thinks HRC is electable, while I sort of think Obama is looking more electable than HRC if it came down to a contest between the two of them for the nomination. Of course, Gore would be the most electable, hands down. Policy-wise, I guess I really don't think there's a whole lot of difference between HRC and Obama so there aren't a lot of policy-type issues we disagree on. But, since she's not a registered Dem. in NY (stayed Indep. because she worked for the County here and they were mostly Rep.) she won't be counteracting my vote in the primary.

(Now, hope I don't get in trouble by folks that think this isn't about Gore. You'll notice I did mention him in the 3rd line down.)
