LTTE: American Legion support hasn't flagged
American Legion support hasn't flagged
August 21, 2007

I WAS quite surprised at the Globe's Aug. 16 article, "VFW, American Legion back Iraq war" (Page A2), which says the American Legion has finally broken its "relative silence on the merits of the Iraq war."

We are not a Johnny-come-lately to this public debate. In fact, in June 2003, the Legion stated: "We must show our troops now that we stand behind them 100 percent. This is our duty."

The American Legion unanimously stated its support in Resolution No. 169 in 2005, as well as in countless press releases, public statements, media articles, and on our national website.

A simple Google search for "American Legion and Iraq war" produces more than 1.1 million hits. Additionally, Resolution 169 was sent to your reporter on Aug. 13, at his request (before he wrote the article). Now he chooses to characterize our support as "recent."

Even those who disagree with our position on the Iraq war certainly do not accuse us of being silent on the matter. They just wish we were.

The American Legion believes that you cannot separate the war from the warrior. If you support the troops, support their mission. And we are on record as doing just that from the beginning.

PAUL A. MORIN
National commander
The American Legion
Washington

1. But you can separate the war and the warrior
And in this case, it would be wise if you did. Even if you were 100% behind the war, you could hardly say that the policies in place now in any way protect or help the warrior--quite the contrary, they are leading to the breaking not only of bodies but of spirit and psyche. The American Legion is delusional---but then my brother, when he retired from the Army, avoided that organization like the plague.

3. Many, if not most of us, do avoid these assholes.
My chapter of the VFP has been fighting for years to march in the Boston Veterans Day parade.

10. It is a moblog site
http://ulnu.orfay.com/

Some raunchy stuff is posted there by others but it is mostly an Adult site.

I like to talk with a picture to direct the point. Pics snagged are used in a non commercial manner, thus (IMHO) copyright doesn't apply.

5. Great a Brain Morin
The bad ass morin who claims he's a Vietnam vet and yet spent his time at Fort Dix New Jersey, a bad ass indeed.

And please America Legion Lurkers, I'm a veteran and I don't like the implication that one can't support the troops without wanting them killed on a daily basis based on your heroes lies. Its not the troops mission we are not supporting. Its a failed fucking lunatic mission ginned up by a failed fucking lunatic deserter supported by you lunatics.

Yes you are on record for getting our kids killed for a lie. That would look great on your letterhead.

6. The American Legion was co-founded after WWI
by William Donovan, WWI Hero, head of the OSS in WWII and Knight of Malta. Donovan was also assistant to the chief prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials and was instrumental in the acquittal of Franz Von Papen, fellow Knight of Malta and the person responsible for the installation of Hitler as Chancellor of Germany.
