WACO, Texas — Two Iraq war veterans face up to life in federal prison after being convicted Thursday of plotting to kill the wife of one of the soldiers.

Jurors deliberated more than six hours before revealing their verdict to U.S. District Judge Walter S. Smith Jr.

William Henry Foster, 22, of Washington, and Adam R. Watson, 22, of California, both stationed at Fort Hood, were found guilty on federal charges of conspiracy to commit murder.

According to testimony, Foster promised Watson $75,000 from a life insurance policy to kill his wife at the couple’s home at Fort Hood, a sprawling Army post with about 52,000 troops that is 50 miles southwest of Waco, the Waco Tribune-Herald reported in its online edition Thursday.

Foster’s wife testified that he was infuriated when she told him in August that she was having an affair with another soldier while he was deployed in Iraq. The woman said their marriage was falling apart and that she told him she would be gone when he returned from Iraq.
