GI Guilty in Airport Bus Bribery Case
GI Guilty in Airport Bus Bribery Case
February 04, 2009
Arizona Daily Star

An Army Soldier arrested last month on federal bribery charges has pleaded guilty to taking $4,500 in payoffs related to her duties at Tucson International Airport in Arizona.

Pfc. Christina M. Swenson, 39, solicited the bribes from the owner of a local shuttle company who had a contract with the U.S. Army to transport Soldiers from Tucson International to Fort Huachuca, near Sierra Vista, according to the plea agreement filed in U.S. District Court on Jan. 30.

Swenson was assigned to the USO lounge at TIA and was responsible for helping Soldiers get to Fort Huachuca. She admitted to having not given the contracted shuttle company all of the business it was entitled to prior to taking the bribes, but after receiving the payments she said she ensured all military personnel were steered to that company, the plea agreement said.

The shuttle company owner, who was working with the FBI, said he gave Swenson payments of $700, $1,000, $800, $1,000 and $1,000 between November and December 2008, according to the plea agreement.

Swenson was arrested Jan. 8, immediately after accepting the final bribe, the agreement states.
