LOS ANGELES — A federal judge tentatively set a July trial for the excessive force civil case filed by an Iraq war veteran shot by a San Bernardino County deputy after a high-speed chase through Chino.

Elio Carrion was a passenger in a Corvette that led deputies on a 100-mph chase on Jan. 29, 2006. Then-Deputy Ivory Webb fired three rounds at Carrion as the off-duty airman was on the ground.

The shooting was videotaped.

Webb was acquitted of attempted voluntary manslaughter and firearm assault charges in Superior Court the following year.

Carrion filed a civil suit against San Bernardino County and Webb, who filed for bankruptcy protection and is expected to be dropped from the suit.
