Academy airman to serve time for violations

An Air Force Academy airman accused of sexually assaulting underage airmen after plying them with alcohol, among other charges, was convicted on three violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice on Dec. 19.

Former Senior Airman Derick R. Thompson, who was busted to airman basic, will serve six months in prison and receive a bad conduct discharge. The charges stem from a series of assaults that occurred in late December 2007, early January 2008 and in July.

Thompson’s violations included wrongful sexual contact, indecent acts, assault consummated by battery, dereliction of duty for providing alcohol to minors, using a government vehicle for personal use, and failure to obey a lawful order, according to a news release from the Air Force Academy.

Thompson, assigned to the 10th Medical Support Squadron, is not a cadet at the academy.
