Deployed airmen won’t lose untaken leave

Airmen who were unable to take all their annual leave in fiscal 2008 because of deployments or special assignments are allowed to carry over more than 75 days, the Air Force Personnel Center announced Friday.

Special leave accrual will be available to airmen who either were unable to take leave or were recalled from leave for a deployment or for reasons such as supporting a contingency operation, according to an AFPC press release. The fiscal year covers Oct. 1, 2007, to Sept. 30, 2008.

“Special leave accrual is designed to prevent airmen from losing accrued leave if they’re unable to take normal leave due to significant and unforeseen operational requirements,” Master Sgt. Licci Barham, superintendent of customer support operations at AFPC, said in the press release.

The policy applies to active duty and Reserve personnel under Title 10 of the U.S. Code, as well as Air National Guard members who performed full-time training or other full-time duties for 30 days or more.

According to the release, airmen who meet the criteria should contact their local military personnel section for additional guidance. Or they can call the 24-hour Air Force Contact Center at (800) 616-3775.
