BAGHDAD — The U.S. military says an American soldier has been killed by small-arms fire in northern Baghdad.

A statement says the soldier was flown to a medical facility for treatment but died of wounds sustained in Tuesday’s attack.

The military says the soldier was assigned to Multi-National Division-Baghdad and that the attack occurred at 12:15 p.m.

The death raises to at least 25 the number of American troop deaths reported this month. That’s up slightly from 23 in August.
