Job search is on for new education liaison

The Oct. 2 deadline is quickly approaching for applications for a new federal civilian service position of interest to many in the military community — a military liaison between the Pentagon and the Department of Education.

The Department of Education position is one result of an agreement recently signed between that agency and the Defense Department. The job posting states that the person will be the primary liaison between the two departments in “program development, management, and outreach related to improving the academic condition of military dependent children” in local education agencies, and in the transition of military students to and between schools of these local education agencies.

“This is a new career position, and we want a strong pool of candidates who know education and the military competing to fill it,” said Leslye Arsht, deputy undersecretary of defense for military community and family policy. “This will be the key liaison between the two departments.”

The GS-14 position was posted on Sept. 19 and is open for applications through Thursday, Oct. 2.

The job posting is online. The position will be in the Department of Education’s Office of Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development in the Washington, D.C., area.
