A man arrested at Camp Pendleton, Calif., on Monday and charged with the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriends 71-year-old grandfather was discharged from the Corps less than a year ago, after serving tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, according to official records.

Former Lance Cpl. Mark Daniel Lim, 24, left the Corps on June 27 with a general discharge under honorable conditions, according to a copy of his official discharge sheet, Form DD-214, obtained by Marine Corps Times. He last served with 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, at Marine Corps Base Hawaii before his discharge, according to the document.

The records show that Lim was a field wireman for nearly four years after joining the Corps in February 2003. His medals and ribbons include several for deploying to war zones and a rifle marksman badge.

Lim is accused of killing An Phung, as well as stabbing his ex-girlfriends 43-year-old mother multiple times, in an attack at the familys home about 3:25 p.m. Sunday. He was arraigned Wednesday on murder and attempted murder charges and was being held without bail, according to the Associated Press.

Police said the mother underwent surgery and is expected to survive.
