SANTA FE — Gov. Bill Richardson on Tuesday ordered more than a dozen New Mexico National Guard troops to Chama to help the community cope with heavy snowfall.

“The New Mexico National Guard has extensive experience in disaster relief and this initial group will provide an immediate boost to the relief efforts in the most affected areas,” he said.

Snow has blocked roads, damaged structures and left residents stranded in their homes, his office said.

The troops will have two helicopters and several high-profile all-wheel-drive trucks.

“This is also an opportunity for the soldiers to get more experience in the snow while also helping the residents of Chama,” Richardson said.

uhc comment: It's pretty fucking lame when the Governor can only scare up 'more than a dozen New Mexico National Guard troops'.
