Kadena asked to boil water after line break

KADENA AIR BASE, Okinawa — Base residents were told Monday to boil their water following a line break reported Sunday morning.

Base officials did not know how long it would take to fix the water line.

“Until further notice, all personnel must boil any water used for drinking or food preparation,” said base spokeswoman Staff Sgt. Kenya N. Shiloh in response to a query.

Residents were advised to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute to kill bacteria.

Housing areas east of Fairchild Avenue were affected but their water was restored Monday morning, Shiloh said.
