KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Detectives said he sought out and killed a man because of the color of his skin, so why wasn't the suspect being charged with a hate crime?
KCTV5's Amy Anderson reported live on "KCTV5 News at 5 p.m." that William D. McCay, 44, of Kansas City, Mo., was gunned down at 6 a.m. on March 9 on his way to work.
Wednesday night, Jackson County prosecutors said it was clear he was killed for no reason other than the color of his skin, Amy reported.
Witnesses said Gary L. Eye, 18, was watching the news with his friends when the story of McCay's murder caught his attention. Prosecutors said he bragged to his friends that he'd "done that."
